Historia
Doting father? Man of peace? These things are not you, Pacorus. Have you not heard of the hydra? Cut off one of its heads and two more will replace it. You defeat one enemy and another springs forth to torment you, just as the gods torment you with endless strife. After the defeat of Mark Antony Pacorus has returned to the city of Dura to prepare for a happier campaign: the wedding of his daughter to a prince of a kingdom on the eastern frontier of the Parthian Empire.

Good story but too much fantasy ruined it a bit
Revisado: 07-09-24
Being a historical fiction this book is supposed to be at least loosely based on historical facts but it well crossed the boundaries of fantasies, sorceries, and miracles close in nature as the crossing of Moses through the water! These rather unrealistic episodes was a put off and rested credibility of a book in historical fiction category. Narration was great.

Historia
The great Parthian Civil War is over, leaving behind an empire exhausted by years of bloodshed. But no sooner have hostilities ended than Armenia, the client state of Rome, declares war on the empire and unleashes its army against Parthia. Even Dura’s mighty army cannot stave off a series of defeats as the enemies of Parthia circle the empire like hungry wolves. And Pacorus knows that Marcus Licinius Crassus is also marching east to extend Rome’s rule from the Euphrates to the Indus and enslave the whole of Parthia.

Pity the narrator was trying hard but no match for the first 3 book’s narrator
Revisado: 06-26-24
The story was good and engaging but the narration left a lot to be desired. The first 3 books narrator was 8/10 who could imitate flawlessly different voices specially the tough male worriers and old women witch seemlessly as if the book has different narrators! But for this one they chose a different narrator that in spite of best effort was an a mature at best and sort of killed the buzz. Overall worths listening to.

Excellent narrator and good story loosely based on historical facts, gives a glimpse of the century before BC of Roman vs Parthian superpowers. The story is well told and quite engaging.

Historia
When Rome transgresses upon his father's domain that lays between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, Pacorus, a prince of the Parthian Empire, is sent to exact revenge. After a string of victories, Pacorus and his men are captured in Cappadocia, clapped in chains, and sent to Italy to live out the rest of their days as slaves. But fate intervenes and Pacorus and his companions are saved from a living hell by a renegade gladiator named Spartacus. In gratitude, Pacorus agrees to help Spartacus build his army as Rome musters its legions to crush the slave uprising.

Determined to reclaim her ancestral home and reunite her family, Eileen begins working at the local mill, saving her money and holding fast to her dream. As war is declared on a local and global scale, Eileen cannot separate the politics from the very personal impact the conflict has had on her own life.

Didn’t like this book at all. It appears to be like a collection of individual stories not much related to each other. Not captivating at all. Couldn’t finish the book

Historia
Kasia grew up in a poor Jewish home with more siblings than luxuries. But when a chance encounter forces her to the palace of Xerxes, she becomes a concubine to the richest man in the world. She alone, of all Xerxes's wives, loves the man beneath the crown. She alone, of all his wives, holds the heart of the king of kings. Traveling with Xerxes through Europe as he mounts a war against Greece, Kasia knows enemies surround her, but they're not the Spartans or Athenians. The threat lies with those close to the king who hate her people.

As a historical fiction lacked basic researched
Revisado: 01-08-24
There were two main flaws in my opinion: a) throughout the book the author associates Ahuramazda with satan like dark force vs Jehová as God, a basic 15 min research could have reviewed to her that Ahuramazda is God in old Persian, and in the monotheist religion of Zoroaster. Persians were famous in those days of telling the truth and honesty, all fruits of Zoroaster’s teachings. In different regions and languages God is referred to with different names, just because in Islam it is called Allah, doesn’t mean it refers to any other power than what Christian’s in English call God, or Jews call Jehová or whatever name in Hebrew or Aramaic, this biased and ignorant view of the a monotheist religions name of God is an insult to the readers intellect. Secondly, parts of the book well pass the realm of fantasy, not befitting of a book in the historical fiction category.

Historia
The prophet Nehemiah's cousin can speak numerous languages, keep complex accounts, write on rolls of parchment and tablets of clay, and solve great mysteries. There is only one problem: She's a woman in a man's court. In her early childhood years, Sarah experienced the death of her mother and her father's subsequent emotional distance, and she came to two conclusions: God does not care about me, and my accomplishments are the measure of my worth.
