Good, but a little too long

The premise and characters are good, but the pacing needs work. Too much repetitive dialogue and scenes that come off as could have been shortened and still gotten the same effect.

Awesome and funny story

While I admit the story has a slow start it builds up into what’s basically a heist story but assassins set in a medieval world that also has mechs. The humor is very well integrated starting off subtle with a look at Imperium bureaucracy and building up into clearer humor as our main characters start influencing things. The action with the mechs is as good as it is interesting to learn how they work. I can see why this story is so well regarded.

Outstanding

An excellent adaptation of the comic storyline it’s based on with some interesting differences. If you enjoyed the movies, this is worth checking out to compare and contrast with the characters you know and wonder at some that have yet to show up. About the only flaw is the narrator uses the same voice for the villain characters, but since they never share scenes it’s more of a nitpick than anything else. I highly recommend this book.

The original version of the arc that we didn’t see till the Next anime is a good deal darker and better than the anime adaptation. Once again Lisa Ortiz turns in a masterful performance.

Excellent and well performed

A fun and enjoyable book read by the great Jonathan Keeble (even has some Warhammer references here and there). Looking forward to the next book.

Good but a little too long

Overall I did enjoy the story and by the second half I was very invested in the characters and their fates. The narrator did a good job giving voices to said characters too. The only problem I have is the beginning half is slow, and there were times I was wanting the story to move along at a quicker pace. Even so I did like what I experienced and would say it’s worth checking out if you don’t mind the pacing.

A most excellent Christmas listening

The readers do a great job in capturing the characters Tolkien wrote for these letters be they the titular Father Christmas or Polar Bear and the little stories he gave them over the course of the letters. I will likely be listening to this again every Christmas to come.

As Star Wars stories for a younger audience go this is pretty good. It doesn’t shy away from the heavy subject matter of processing loss. The narrator does a pretty good job too. Overall a decent listen.

Excellent

An overall excellent continuation of the story of Horus’ fall to Chaos. There are a few things I wish got more time to be established like the tensions between the Astartes and Remembrancers, but this was still a very good story. Very well performed too.
