Wonderfully wise and theologically mature
Revisado: 02-07-25
Every chapter speaks the claims of the gospel of Jesus with clarity and faithfulness to the biblical message. I know of no better modern explication and defense of the Christian faith.

Historia
In this powerful book that Dutch Sheets calls his life message, listeners are given truths about who they are in Christ and how to become the person God made them to be. More than a book about identity in Christ, it is an action plan to help believers conquer the lies that keep them defeated and walk into a newfound freedom. Originally titled Roll Away Your Stone, it provides sound biblical teaching that shows believers how to walk in the Spirit.

Practical help for spiritual and emotional maturity
Revisado: 09-23-24
I am not convinced of all Dutch’s word studies, but his conclusions are powerful regardless. He spends a lot of time motivating the issue, no doubt crucial for many Christians who assume that coming to Christ gives one an autopilot to inevitable health and maturity. Breaking through that misconception is worth the book, but the concrete plan for laying hold of actual growth that manifests in one’s life is really valuable. This is a great guide to anyone who wants to follow Jesus into the life that we hoped was possible when we started our Christian journey.

Historia
This book is about an idea - namely, that Scripture mandates a Jewish return to the historical region of Palestine - which in turn morphed into a political movement, rallied around a popular slogan ("A country without a nation for a nation without a country"), and eventually contributed to the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Christian Zionism continues to influence global politics, especially US foreign policy, and has deeply affected Jewish-Christian and Muslim-Christian relations.

An even-handed history of events and theologies
Revisado: 12-17-23
Lewis presents a thorough overview of the people, movements and events that have contributed to modern Christian Zionism. The book is refreshingly free of polemical diatribe, simply presenting the facts. He provides important sources that have contributed to the movement’s growth as well as some recent voices of rebuttal. I came away with a much more complete understanding of the complexities and motivations of the Zionist story—exactly what I had hoped for from this book.

Very thought-provoking
Revisado: 07-25-23
The premise that the Hebrew concept of “create” describes a process of putting something into order rather than bring it into being is an intriguing one that of course has huge implications for the interpretation of Genesis and other texts in the Hebrew Scriptures. It would be nice to hear of ancient theology that accords with this definition. I need to listen again with attention to that question. But the thesis of this book makes a lot of sense and gives a sensible way of taking seriously both God’s special revelation in Scripture and his general revelation in nature. Not many exegetes can say that, unfortunately.
