Rosamund Pike's narration is AMAZING!!! I had the version narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. For me, Michael Kramer read in a way that was difficult to hold my attention and I have ADHD. Female narrators are less likely to fall into the drone of backround noise and constant urban vibrations like vehicles and trains. So, I bought this version. Let me tell you! Rosamund Pike's narration made me never want to stop listening!

Bad Narrator

Waiting for Unabridged Book 1. Decided to get this book while waiting because I love and own about 80% of Rice's published books. I love the author's work. However, the narrator for this book overacted so badly that I could not enjoy the story. It was unbearable. After the 2nd chapter, I returned the book. I have no idea if the story is good or not because I did not read it. I give the story 3 stars because I trust Rice. The narrator 1 star. Please release book 1 unabridged and hire a new narrator for book 2. Book 3 will be released next year. It will help sales and regain fans. Don't lose us over these things.

great book, terrible recording

It is a short story. I would have loved a long detailed story the way novels about the other vampires are written. Would have loved Ursula's story and Vittirio's the way that Armand and Bianca's stories are interwoven. They lived so close. Why not a book about Avicus and Zenobia? Where the heck did they go? I want to read Eudoxia's story or Roshamandes. Also, the recording of tge narration is bad. Sounds like a 1950's two way radio.

Oftentimes, when I read Anne Rice's books, I fall in love with them because they transport me into a vibrant and historically accurate paradise. Personally, I did not like that this book and the one prior focused on the present. However, the usual magic in Anne Rice's storytelling is still in this book.The interesting thing about this story is her humor. The narrator does an excellent job portraying this. I laughed frequently. Especially during Chapter 8. I love how the characters grow and overlap stories. I appreciate Anne Rice's talent in weaving all of the details together like a spider in her web, capturing us readers. However, I was not fond of the campy style and strange lyrical way in which some of the story is written. This one book was difficult to follow for those reasons.

I have read the series in paper form a hundred times since I was in high school, in 1998-2002. I love the narrator's voice. He is very good! Maybe he can read Armand for us.
