Fun Concept, but the Same Story

I have been continuing to listen to this series, and the concept is actually really engaging, but the author needs to develop her stories more. There needs to be more of an overarching plan, not a rehash with each book. All of the Earth women are basically the same, and all of the guys they fall for are also on type. I want to love it, but rehashing her first excellent book is getting old.
The narrator, on the other hand, is totally amazing. I don't think I would have come this far in the series if I wasn't listening to her narration.

Loved this one, and already can’t wait for the next one! Beautifully read, even with such a huge cast of characters. I think it might actually have been easier to keep track of who was who in this he audio version. Bravo! Looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Megan Whalen Turner is Brilliant!

This whole series is so well written, imaginative, and the characters so engaging, that I wish it would never end. It must also be said that Steve West is FANTASTIC, and that I am eternally grateful that he is the reader for the whole series. If you are hesitating in listening to this, don't wait- but start with "The Thief," you have a treat in store for yourself!

It says a lot that I can wish this book would keep going on, as it is over 60 (!) hours in length. WHAT a bargain! It is sheer fantasy, but what fun it is- and you really end up rooting for the characters that you have come to know so well.
As enjoyable as this book is, I really cannot imagine it without the incredible narration of Kyle McCarley- he is a GENIUS! He is also incredibly consistent, so you can tell immediately who is speaking. My one slight criticism is that some of the women's voices (aka Mary and Camille) were fairly wimpy, but I guess trying to narrate a small woman's voice could push you towards the "wispy" end of the spectrum.
I HIGHLY recommend this whole series- it was unadulterated fun! Thank you Drew Hayes and Kyle McCarley! Mr. Hayes- PLEASE tell us what happens with the next generation!

Just Keeps Getting Better

These books are shameless good fun! Kyle McCarley is a MASTERFUL narrator, his distinctive voices really enhance the book ( a couple of his female voices are a bit too weak and wispy, but overall he is simply amazing)! The plot has all sorts of interesting twists and turns and you end up rooting for the whole former "Powered" group, along with their friends.
I am listening to the series again, since the final book just came out, and am throughly enjoying myself. It's also a bargain, as one credit get you 32 hours of listening fun!

Okay, the other guy is okay, but WHY? Lorelei is Brilliant at ALL the voices! Having a man do Adam’s voice doesn’t add anything at all- and in fact detracts from the story because there are two alternate versions of characters in one story. It’s disconcerting.

Great Concept, So-so writing

I got this book on sale, and probably would not want to spend a whole credit on it.
What did you like best about this story?
Really interesting magical concept. Very creative- I would like to see what happens, but the writing is clunky. The characters act improbably and the constant physical danger is just over the top.
Would you be willing to try another one of Elizabeth Phillips’s performances?
I would really rather not. Honestly, a "null" is not pronounced "knowel," and she just didn't have the depth to carry off the series. A different reader might have really bumped up the experience.
