Would you consider the audio edition of Sharp Objects to be better than the print version?

Can't say, only listened.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the plot is great, the characters and story woven together with genius.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't think of books this way. Every word/phrase/page/chapter is important.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I can't imagine a film or tagline. Again, when I read a book I don't consider how it would be as a film. I leave that to others.

Any additional comments?

I preferred "Gone Girl" of Gillian Flynns books that I have listened to on audible. The two narrators on that book were fantastic. Very dark story but entertaining to the max.

Would you try another book from Sissy Spacek and/or Sissy Spacek?

No, I thought I would enjoy the story of her life especially since she and I are both of Czech ancestry but I found it boring and mundane.

What was most disappointing about Sissy Spacek’s story?

Just boring.

What didn’t you like about Sissy Spacek’s performance?

Also boring. Sort of as if she was addressing pre-schoolers; not adults.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment.

Any additional comments?

Prepare to be underwhelmed.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this book because the narrator is brilliant. The story is strong, keeps you guessing until the end. The characters are charming.

What other book might you compare Can You Keep a Secret? to and why?

All of Sophie Kinsella's books are good but this one is one of the best. I would consider it similar to the first few shopaholic books in terms of drawing one into the characters and the humour in general.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't judge books by any particular scene.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend if the friend was interested in the English setting and genre. The narrator is absolutely fantastic and the story ties up beautifully. It is a very believable story set in contemporary times which appeals to me a lot lately.

What was one of the most memorable moments of How It All Began?

I don't think about most memorable moments. Instead I judge the novel as a whole. If I am interested from hour to hour that is what matters.

What does Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Just a fantastic narration on all levels. One of the best narrators I have heard.

Rebecca Audiolibro Por Daphne du Maurier arte de portada

Narrator creepy!

This was my favourite mystery novel when I was a young girl. The audible version, however, was a challenge for me. The story, of course, is fantastic and a classic. The narrator, however, I found to be grating and one-dimmensional. Her voice was course and hard, even though she was voicing Rebecca. I never felt that the character, Rebecca, would have had such a gravelly voice. Was she not young and naive? That aside, when the narrator was called upon to channel other characters' voices, the result was distressing to say the least. Almost all of the characters had the same course, edgy voice. Please tell me I am not wrong!
Not a very impressive first listen. Do yourself a favour, and spend your money on some other novel. As I mentioned, the story is great; the narrator fails, in my opinion.

FIVE STARS IF NOT MORE!

I can't wait for Muriel Barbery's next novel! I fell in love with this book and its characters. One of those books you can't put down and can't bear when it's over. The narrators, two of them, are fantastic. The contrast between the menopausal concierge and the suicidal young girl is fantastic. I can't decide whom I liked best. The girl I guess. I saw myself in her. Inquisitive, enthusiastic but at the same time questioning and seeking. Beyond her years, but we'll allow this to the author. Makes for a very interesting read. Funny, though, I also saw myself, as a menopausal woman, in the conceirge. Dual heriones but quite opposites. This book will appeal to the more intellectual, well-read listeners with its many references to classic literature and art. Highbrow but in a very good way! No down talking to the reader. Very lofty but still very funny.
Highly recommended...loved it, loved it, loved it!

Dark, depressing, realistic but so poetic!

Having a love of Ireland lead me to listen to this book, one of my first audible downloads. While this book has to be described as dark and somewhat depressing, the upside is that the writing is the work of an absolute poet and perfectionist of the English language. Sublime! Regarding the narrator, he is superb. He sounds as if he truly loves the book and each and every character.

I felt tentative about this book at first; the language complex, the story dark. But I encourage readers to stick with it because the past and present are subtely inter-woven, the characters mysterious and interesting, and every question falls neatly into place at the end without the need for any purfunctory happy endings or elevation of character. The story is essentially about life and death and the emotions surrounding them, told by a "man"!

So...if you are interested in literature but written recently, give this awesome book a read. I was very impressed!
