Historia
Growing up in a house filled with dirty feather boas and fearless mice, Emi Nietfeld dreams of escaping to the Ivy League. Emi’s single mom believes in her, but can’t stop hoarding—catapulting Emi into the underworld of troubled teen treatment, foster care, and homelessness. When her shot arrives to trade sleeping in her car for the hallowed halls of an elite college, Emi must decide: How far will she go to market herself as a perfect “overcomer” when her problems are far from over? And what will it cost to maintain that illusion at Harvard and into adulthood?

Youth, Dreams and Reality
Revisado: 11-02-23
Emi documents her personal experience as an at risk youth growing up in a troubled environment. The epilogue captures how she processes her youthful memories into a young adult life as she attempts to consolidate her life experience. Touched me dearly as I strive to raise teenage children in this complicated world.

Historia
The world-renowned philosopher and author of the best-selling Justice explores the central question of our time: What has become of the common good? World-renowned philosopher Michael J. Sandel argues that to overcome the crises that are upending our world, we must rethink the attitudes toward success and failure that have accompanied globalization and rising inequality. Sandel shows the hubris a meritocracy generates among the winners and the harsh judgment it imposes on those left behind, and traces the dire consequences across a wide swath of American life.

Thought provoking book on the dignity of work
Revisado: 03-16-21
I don’t know what to expect in this book but it delivered a robust conversation on the dignity of work and society that is well thought out in this time of COVID pandemic. Outstanding, but it can be demanding on the listener at times due to the subtle points the author documents.

Historia
The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

Book is mostly about college campus administration.
Revisado: 10-13-18
Book is mostly about college administrators. I was hoping it was more broad in scope. Several chapters did cover parenting topics that are valuable for my 10 and 8 year olds.
