Historia
Elinor Cleghorn became an unwell woman 10 years ago. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease after a long period of being told her symptoms were anything from psychosomatic to a possible pregnancy. As Elinor learned to live with her unpredictable disease, she turned to history for answers, and found an enraging legacy of suffering, mystification, and misdiagnosis. In Unwell Women, Elinor Cleghorn traces the almost unbelievable history of how medicine has failed women by treating their bodies as alien and other, often to perilous effect.

Every Woman Should Read
Revisado: 11-02-21
Every woman should read this book and appreciate what has been done so far, acknowledge what is significantly lacking because it will surprise you and you may not know unless you work in the medical field and even then, still be surprised, and light a fire in the drive to push for more advocacy for female based studies not for separation or segregation of the sexes but for the simple understanding that female and male physiology is different and thus deserve equal expertise. Thank you to the author for her voice in our behalf and hers!

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Blue Pill or Red Pill.......do you want to wakeup
Revisado: 10-28-21
If you want to understand our social structure to the core, this book will not disappoint. This book highlights the stain on our patriotism that makes it difficult for those of us who can't blindly devote ourselves to the statement of "The Greatest Nation in the World" without acknowledgement and demand of drastic change to the areas of deficit in which we all contribute daily, we need only to lift our heads, look around, and push up stream together. The author puts it all there for us to see, however, we must accept we are a species of community and the longer we deny that, the greater we all suffer, regardless of your place in the heirarchy.

Great & Reflective WORKBOOK
Revisado: 07-31-20
This book was what I need to work on weeding out racism in my everyday life. The part that aggrivated me was that it should have journal, workbook, activity or something of that nature in the title because if I would have known that, I would have purchased the book in hand to do the reflection questions.....which there are 5-10 each chapter and that was the essence of the book. I will print them out now and do them but I wish I would have know first hand so I could have participated more functionally during the chapters to get the over experience and message in a whole.
I do want to say it was a tough read to hear. I had to put it down a few times due to my white privaledged frustration which I recognize, but the reflection questions are the essence of the work and what has been lacking from other BLM reads.
Thank you for you work and messages!

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

must read
Revisado: 07-08-20
If your white, you need to read this. You may find that everything you thought you were doing right to not be racist may inadvertently be making things worse. You may also learn how racism is not only harmful in every way to those it apposes but leaves everyone in a state of disadvantage in different ways.

Wildly successful when it was first published in 1955, Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame sold over two million copies and stayed put on the New York Times bestseller list for 112 weeks. It was made into a play, a Broadway as well as a Hollywood musical, and a fabulous movie starring Rosalind Russell. Since then, Mame has taken her rightful place in the pantheon of Great and Important People as the world's most beloved, madcap, devastatingly sophisticated, and glamorous aunt.

Revisado: 05-20-19
This was always one of my favourite films with Roseline Russel which I went into the book knowing it was quite the same and I appreciate d the intro to warm me that in the book she is less of a heroic figure and more of an eccentric human, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. What a fascinating human liberal! Will always have a soft spot in my heart for Auntie Mame!

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

A real horror story
Revisado: 11-11-18
This is a story of nightmares and even though you listen in a constant state of anxiety and hold back on your panic as you really let your mind inhale the fear and warning signs, like tails of war and other basic human lessons, it is absolutely vital that our society understand the vulnerability we possess. Humanity as a whole grew as a species together and only together can we remain through natures challenges. This is a story of how we didn’t work together and how we paid for it dearly but also how we got really lucky to be here today. Be warned, time and again, like the lessons of War of the Worlds, our common enemy may only be microscopic and it may only be waiting for that perfect distracted, moment of vulnerability to strike but it is most certain it will and our luck may have run out. All of our small problems between each other that seem so large will not compare to the day your neighbors turn you away with panic and fear because helping you may be a death sentence for even their closest of kin.

In all reality, great book! A true horror story in my opinion and a medical nerds must read. Little repetitive at some points where it feels like it drags but once your reminded what your reading it sucks you back it with reality.

Book good, recording is terrible!
Revisado: 01-15-16
If i didnt pay for this i wouldnt mind much but since i did i was irritated by the quality of the recording. I know it's probably older but it get loud and soft and there are some lengthy pauses.
Book and reader are very good but the recording needs fixing.
