…the guy wasn’t even attracted to her until she got a makeover. He stated plainly that she wasn’t his type and that’s why she was hired for the job. She chased him around like a puppy. This is a sad, cheesy story with forgettable main characters. Free or not, I should’ve just kept scrolling.

With all the amazing reviews, I was positive this book would have more angst and depth. it didn’t. It’s moreso for someone who likes light, breezy romances and little-to-no actual catastrophic conflict. I’m only just realizing that the reviewers are ppl who actually like this …er…stuff. All fluff. No dark.

Sure, there are two sort of? climatic events in the story, but they’re pretty boring. And here we go again introducing the next story in the middle of this one. Like an advertisement for the next book.

Oh, and the sex scenes everyone seems to be all googly-eyed over? Mid at best. They’re so long because 3/4 of the time, they’re reexplaining what they’re doing.

Like this: “I’m going to eat these potato chips so good.” I’ve been dying to tell her how much I want her chips for as long as I can remember. I slowly grab a chip and taste it. No other potato chip will ever compare.”

That’s what you’re spending your credit on. If you want less light, I’d skip this one.

I dunno. The story was going pretty great until book two. Mostly because the huge tension and build up between the LFC and the villain is completely eliminated with (literally) a single flame. The secondary villain is also pretty quickly removed, apologizing profusely behind the scenes. We never get to see any of the climax actualized.

In terms of the romance, it turns from angsty and fleshed out to yet another cheesy ode to random sweet words in book two. Yet another story where the strong, opinionated men become mere shadows in the LFC’s light.

Also, the plot. I get that a suspension of belief is required for reverse harem stories-my fave genre right now- but four major league sports guys staying celebrate for 4 years and pining after the same chick is almost tea-spitting hilarious.

Lastly, one of the narrators - he does Ash’s and the uncle’s voices, I think? He sounds…cringy when reading the sex stuff. Picture a very sleepy Santa Claus reading you a steamy story. You’re welcome.

Idk. I say skip this one. Save the credit.

Okay, hear me out. This is a sweet story with a seemingly well-rounded, strong protagonist and a clear-cut arch nemesis. The steamy scenes were great - especially when narrated by the female narrator. But both narrators are amazing.

Note: spoilers and grumbling in 3…2….1….

Here’s the problem. Like so many other “fierce female finding her way in the world” stories, pretty much everyone in this LFC’s life has pretty drastically hurt her, including her new pack. Everyone.

Her ex boyfriend was painted the darkest. But her entire family blatantly disrespected her. Besides the big reveal, they invited her ex knowing she has issues with him. The whole family kept a massive secret from her. Her own pack kept something they knew from day one from her.

Every time one of these betrayals was revealed, the LFC very easily reasoned out why the person betrayed her and ten quickly forgave them. Hell, even the new girlfriend, who cheated with her ex and subsequently treated her awfully, got a quick pass.

Maybe I’m just too jaded for this sort of quick-close story style. Full disclosure, I have over 500 audibles, and at this point I’m looking for more bang for my credit. I wish the author’d just left those easy glide discussions out. This would’ve nabbed a perfect score.

…was a little uncomfortable to listen to. Don’t get me wrong, both narrators are just as awesome this time, and the twist in the typical omegaverse is a nice change. But there’s a 15 year old secondary character in the story, and the adults almost constantly talk VERY GRAPHICALLY about sex around her, to the point where she tells her brother that their sister bangs even more than he does. Maybe I’m just old. And, full disclosure, I don’t have kids. I get that 15 year olds are having sex. This just feels…cringy.

I’m hesitant to write an extensive review. Typically, when the first book meets or exceeds my “definitely worth the credit” expectations, the next installment turns out to be crap.

I’ll say that I was pleasantly surprised by the world-building here. The four main characters, and even some secondary ones, are nicely fleshed out. The author didn’t make the LFC a “badass” only to convert her into a whimpering pile of goo when the MC affected her. That’s definitely refreshing. The author also refrained from using repetitive phrases, which drives me insane. So no “I released the breath I was holding” or “my heart skipped a beat”.

On to book 2!

Was not expecting that at ALL. Full disclosure, my reviews tend to be negative. Scathing, almost. And I’m a little stumped that I’ve got nothing negative to offer here.

Okay, let’s see. First and most importantly (to me), the author didn’t lie to us. Most “bad b!tch” books have the author referring to the LFC as a “tough as nails”, but she really isn’t. Like, at all. Although she curses like a sailor and tosses her hair around a lot, she becomes this sappy pile of goo when the first guy shows her some attention.

Not this LFC. She’s tough in the best way. Whenever I’m afraid she’s going to go soft on an issue, she hold strong. The only exception to that being when she faces her fatter about a big secret he’d been holding from her. Then, she wasn’t as much of a powerhouse. Otherwise, perfecto.

I like that her lieutenants are all drawn individually with their own specific set of traits and issues.

Waiting for that next credit so I can buy the next on the series!

Same thing. Two rich, bored narcissists who like to play chess with other ppl’s lives just to see what happens.

The faux “dark” parts weren’t very dark. Seriously, just watch the movie. The audiobook’s actors are better, but at least the movie’s original. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh, and the teenaged LFC, after learning that her bf roofied and raped her twice, seduced and killed another woman, and plotted to kill her AND her bff…the next day, she literally says, “I know this is the same man who raped me, but he’s doing an amazing job going down on me, so i just won’t think about that now.” She’s a timid, weak (not meek) example for all the young ladies to follow. “He’s so hot, I’ll just quietly say no as he takes my virginity by force.”

Way to teach young ppl how to handle assault and rape, author. 👍🏼

The tone of the book summary had me thinking this would be a dark romance.

It isn’t. In ANY way.

On the plus side, it’s nice to see Sebastian York finally reading a character closer to his age.

So Tired of Losing Credits on This Type of Writing

I fell for it.

Again.

And lost yet another credit. They’re expensive, you know, to those of us who work to earn just enough to buy them?

This is yet another “Yes, I know I’m absolutely stunningly beautiful, and my body makes all the guys drool, but WAIT!! I want you to want me for my brain! I’m super-smart, too!” story. Spoiler alerts may follow. Maybe not. I’m too angry about the credit to think it through…

Author K.A. Knight does a good job reminding us 15 times that Rory is oh so smart. But she consistently does stupid things.

Idk. Maybe K.A. Knight needed a shortcut to the drama. Of which there’s very little that doesn’t lead to what will become super boring steamy scenes. By the “finale”, which involved all of them, I was so bored with these people that I rolled my eyes the whole way through.

The one character of interest had an addition. A serious issue and great opportunity to use the platform. But, nope! He decided that the hot, sexy Rory was all he needed.

Back to Rory’s amazing intellect. So she moves in to a place a hacker provides, but doesn’t consider that there may be cameras or bugs around…

She makes a deal…hilarious…with law enforcement, but doesn’t consider getting it on paper…

She’s destitute and hungry, and looking for jobs. Why not try stripping? I mean…if you’re Uber hot and at rock bottom, isn’t that a relatively quick way to make some cash…?

All in all, we, readers, have got to stop praising books that don’t deserve our hard-earned money. I can’t trust your reviews anymore because you’re either related to the author or extremely wealthy and making it rain credits.
