Historia
In this Hugo-nominated novel, an alien walks into a museum and asks if he can see a paleontologist. But the arachnid ET hasn't come aboard a rowboat with the Pope and Stephen Hawking (although His Holiness does request an audience later). Landing at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, the spacefarer, Hollus, asks to compare notes on mass extinctions with resident dino-scientist Thomas Jericho.

Historia
Neanderthals have developed a radically different civilization on a parallel Earth. A Neanderthal physicist, Ponter Boddit, accidentally passes from his universe into a Canadian underground research facility. Fortunately, a team of human scientists, including expert paleo-anthropologist Mary Vaughan, promptly identifies and warmly receives Ponter. Solving the language problem and much else is a mini-computer, called a Companion, implanted in the brain of every Neanderthal. But it can't help his fellow scientist back in his world, Adikor Huld, when the authorities charge Adikor with his murder.

Great idea and concept. But Mary is very poorly written. It’s hard to believe the author ever met a woman.

I don’t often write reviews as I’m not an author & hesitate to criticize , but this particular book in the series needs a caveat. It’s very violent unnecessarily so I MO And I’m a huge fan of Abercrombie so if you’re familiar with his dark gritty world that says something about my general taste. But this book made me feel physically ill at times. There are awful displays of misogynistic attitudes & abuse. I only kept going in hopes of the female werewolf overcoming. It does touch well on some good social issues at times. There are a few bright spots too but if you are at all sensitive to to the mistreatment of women skip this one. The series is free in the plus catalog or I wouldn’t have bothered after book 2. Mainly because some Y/ A writers can include annoying quirks such as fashion descriptions and inappropriately written teenage sexual behavior My own personal peeves in this genre Teens don’t always have to be slaves to their raging hormones. It can and has been tastefully done by other writers

There’s a lot to like about this 2nd book in the series. I’m a big fan of almost all of Mark Tufo Michael Talbot in any of his iterations is awesome. His interactions with BT always make me laugh out loud. The only downside is the character of Darlene & her fellow companions. She becomes annoying, as do the characters around her. The narrator for her only makes it worse Maybe someone better could improve my opinion of her, but I doubt it. If I wasn’t caught up in the tale of Mike, BT & Tracy I would definitely skip the next book

Historia
In this Hugo-nominated novel, Neanderthal physicist Ponter Boddit brings Canadian geneticist Mary Vaughan back to his world to explore the near-utopian civilization of the Neanderthals. Boddit serves as a Candide figure, the naive visitor whose ignorance about our society makes him a perfect tool to analyze human tendencies toward violence, over-population, and environmental degradation.

Good book. The MC is a tad bit idealistic to be true. I appreciated the way the female characters were portrayed My only real complaint is that it was too short. I may wait for the rest to come out in an omnibus

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

This is a highly entertaining book. I was skeptical and put off buying it as I had a hard time getting into The Martian but this is quite a different story. Jazz was an engaging character and Rosario Dawson was a perfect voice for her. There’s plenty of fast paced action. My only issue was that it didn’t last longer. I’d have liked to hear more details on Jazz’s backstory. I hoping for a sequel I don’t think her adventures are over. Get this book it’s well worth the time & money
