Historia
State Road 177 runs along the Suwannee River, between Fargo, Georgia, and the Okefenokee Swamp. Drive that route from east to west, and you'll cross six bridges. Take it from west to east, and you might find seven. But you'd better hope not. Titus and Melanie Bell leave their hotel in Fargo for a second honeymoon canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp. But shortly before they reach their destination, they draw up to a halt at the edge of a rickety bridge with old stone pilings, with room for only one car....

This was an unusual ghost/demon story that I quite enjoyed. Particularly the characters of the elderly cousins. Such a hoot!

A Cautionary Tale
Revisado: 08-20-24
First of all, Scott Brick is an excellent narrator. I always completely enjoy listening to him.
The story itself is an exploration of humankind’s ability for violence and retribution as well as a dive into the morality of such. The main protagonist is a sympathetic character who wrought a terrible crime upon not just humans, but all the creatures of earth that carry the male/female genetic traits. Which brings me to my one criticism. There was no mention of any kind of resolution for the non-human animals. Only loss.
Considering when the story was written, the science behind the plague seemed sound. I’m certainly no expert, so take my statement accordingly. But since the book was written, the development of CRSPR and other biotechnology tools enables a potential nightmare scenario from which the world may never recover.
Frank Herbert has always been a favorite author of mine and I was quite pleased with this book.

Solid Zombie Story
Revisado: 02-19-24
I like the story and the characters. The only criticism I have is that there is a lot of repetitive phrases, particularly concerning popping eyeballs and stinky, milky white eye goo from putting the zombies down. The other thing I shake my head about is the mispronunciation of the word, “detritus” by the narrator. However, I am enjoying the series enough I will continue listening to it.

Historia
One morning, the residents of Walden, Virginia, woke up to find the rest of the world gone. Just...gone. Surrounding their town was a wall of inky darkness, plummeting Walden into permanent night. Nothing can get in - not light, not people, not even electricity, radio, TV, internet, food, or water. And nothing can get out.

Darkness and Despair
Revisado: 02-07-24
The story is certainly bleak. Mr. Keene has a knack for leaving little to no hope in his stories. But I like his world building and mythology. The performer’s voice was a little off-putting at first, but I got used to his presentation after a bit and came to enjoy his characters.

Excellent Tale
Revisado: 02-02-24
I really enjoyed this story. While parts of it are scary — I found reference to it on the Reddit horrorlit — it is ultimately a story of love between a father and his daughter and hope in a dying world.
The narrator was wonderful. He brought the characters alive and has a most pleasant voice and reading tempo.

In a desolate desert, members of an isolated agricultural station discover a stranger, dehydrated, delirious, and near death from exposure. His weak frame is thin, desiccated. Missing a Chapter
Revisado: 12-17-23
I liked the story, but the recording is missing chapter 20. Chapter 20 is listed, but when I play it, it’s chapter 21. The story definitely jumps into another scene as well. Dang it. Quit listening at that point.

Decent Zombie Apocalypse
Revisado: 12-11-23
I liked the story okay. Sometimes the characters seemed a little shallow, no depth to them. And sometimes the dialogue was silly. Naive almost.
The narrator did a good job although sometimes I had a difficult time understanding who was talking because her inflections didn’t change enough between characters.
Overall though I liked the story enough, I’ll listen to the others in the series.
