Historia
After taking down the source of corruption of the Unseen World, Sydney is left with almost no magical ability. Feeling estranged from herself, she is determined to find a way back to her status as one of the world’s most dangerous magicians. Unfortunately, she needs to do this quickly: the House of Shadows, the hell on earth that shaped her into who she was, the place she sacrificed everything to destroy, is rebuilding itself.

This was an amazing ending to a great series. The Magic is so visceral and real, making the books a delight to read. I look forward to more books by this author, she reminds me of a young Patricia McKillip!

Historia
Caine is washed up and hung out to dry, a crippled husk kept isolated and restrained by the studio that exploited him. Now they have dragged him back for one last deal. But Caine has other plans. Those plans take him back to Overworld, the alternate reality where gods are real and magic is the ultimate weapon. There, in a violent odyssey through time and space, Caine will face the demons of his past, find true love, and just possibly destroy the universe. Hey, it’s a crappy job, but somebody’s got to do it.

Historia
The Annurian Empire is disintegrating. The advantages it used for millennia have fallen to ruin. The ranks of the Kettral have been decimated from within, and the kenta gates, granting instantaneous travel across the vast lands of the empire, can no longer be used. In order to save the empire, one of the surviving Kettral must voyage beyond the edge of the known world through a land that warps and poisons all living things to find the nesting ground of the giant war hawks. Meanwhile, a monk turned con-artist may hold the secret to the kenta gates.

Revisado: 07-28-21
Brian Staveley is a fantastic writer, and Empire's Ruin is a great start to another series in the Unhewn Throne universe. The writing is crisp and a joy to read, the worldbuilding is deep and interesting, and the plot is unique. The philosophical underpinnings are entertaining without getting in the way of the story, which is something most authors fail to do properly.
Writing aside, the narrators are quite good. Moira Quirk is great, and the others do an good job (though if I'm being honest neither Joe or Oliver are as good as Vance).
I will continue to look forward to the books Brian writes for years to come. Well done!

Historia
In Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle, Matthew Stover created a new kind of fantasy novel, and a new kind of hero to go with it: Caine, a street thug turned superstar, battling in a future where reality shows take place in another dimension, on a world where magic exists and gods are up close and personal. In that beautiful, savage land, Caine is an assassin without peer, a living legend born from one of the highest-rated reality shows ever made.

Historia
Dev is a smuggler with the perfect cover. He's in high demand as a guide for the caravans that carry legitimate goods from the city of Ninavel into the country of Alathia. The route through the Whitefire Mountains is treacherous, and Dev is one of the few climbers who knows how to cross them safely. With his skill and connections, it's easy enough to slip contraband charms from Ninavel - where any magic is fair game, no matter how dark - into Alathia, where most magic is outlawed.

This book, and series, is amazing. It absolutely does not get the attention it deserves! the writing is fantastic, the plot of fast and fun, and the magic is a joy to read. What's more, Courtney Schaffer does something unique with the physical geology/adventure/climbing/hiking aspects of a journey that I have never encountered before.
A brilliant book, and a great audiobook production too. Well done.
