EXCELLENT writing

I’m going to reread this one. This was the perfect story! And the writing? Phew! Only downer is our male reader was swallowing his spit often, maybe he needs a drink of water? But I managed to deal with it which says a lot about how good this story was.

Such a sweet beautiful story! Writing was excellent except for a couple instances where a character was getting described and it was done so obviously. Like hey I’m so and so and I have this much money, this many houses etc etc. There are definitely smoother ways to define characters to the readers. In terms of the story itself I was really getting upset at the main character for dragging along her ex like that. Like girl! Cut him off already. And also he was so out of pocket! Selfish, sexist, disrespectful, just vile. Anyway I really did enjoy the story, really had me rooting for these characters.

Gripping

Ok when this story began I didn’t really love the voice actors and had issues with the male accent. The accent wasn’t correct, I should know, it was supposed to be from my mother land. But the story itself kept me in, and then somehow I didn’t realize when but I was completely ok with the voices and accent. Then I really fell in love with the story. I felt every emotion, every plot twist. Found myself yelling at the characters for dumb behavior as if they could hear me and I was a friend giving them tough love. This story really had a way of touching my heart. Sad that it ended but was such a joy. It really got me thinking about how we look at other people, that we may look at someone as a vilain but it’s hard to do that when we take the time to know their full story. This is a must read, and love the little bits about Haïti in there! 🇭🇹

Excellent story with twists and turn that just keep you hooked. You can’t help but to root for the protagonists. Loved the focus on therapy and processing loss and grief. So needed.

Could not put this down!

This is such a well developed story. I really respect CJ’s careful weaving of details from many of her other books. It’s like all of this is so well thought out, because it is! Character development? On point. Imagery? On point. Story flow? On point. Narrators? On point. Keeping you at the edge of your seat and not shying away from tough subjects? On point! Honestly what are you waiting for. You need to read this book. Ending took me by surprise. I’ll take my time to read the second one because I don’t want it to end since the third one isn’t out yet.
