Historia
In 2021 cryptocurrency went mainstream. Giant investment funds were buying it, celebrities like Tom Brady endorsed it, and TV ads hailed it as the future of money. Hardly anyone knew how it worked—but why bother with the particulars when everyone was making a fortune from Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, or some other bizarrely named “digital asset”? As he observed this frenzy, investigative reporter Zeke Faux had a nagging question: Was it all just a confidence game of epic proportions? What started as curiosity—with a dash of FOMO—would morph into a two-year globe-spanning quest.

Book Got Listened
Revisado: 10-13-23
The public deserves a well-researched book on the rise and fall of SBF/FTX—and Zeke Faux delivered with Number Go Up. Great explanations and analysis. Loved when Zeke got to talk to Jimmy Fallon about Bored Ape, pointing out people lost real money.
Fallon unsatisfying response: “I have no idea about investing. I bought it for the community.”

Historia
The promise that you can “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” is central to the story of the American Dream. It’s the belief that if you work hard and rely on your own resources, you will eventually succeed. However, time and again we have seen how this foundational myth, with its emphasis on individual determination, brittle self-sufficiency, and personal accomplishment, does not help us. Instead, as income inequality rises around us, we are left with shame and self-blame for our condition.

Excellent information on income and wealth inequality…

And solid solutions at the end that all of us can do to address in our communities.
Really appreciated the chapter on “safe made man” fiction, especially since I regrettably went through a Fountainhead-is-life-changing phase in my 20s. Now I know about the real Ayn Rand, Horatio Alger, Laura Wilder, etc. (Wish Ms. Quart had included Napoleon Hill!!)
