Historia
A murder victim dumped at the dead end of a lonely country road, face and hands obliterated by a shotgun blast, is not the way sheriff’s detective Nick Fourcade wants to start his week. His only lead takes him to the family of a hometown hero suddenly gone missing. Marc Mercier left his home for a weekend hunting trip and hasn’t been seen since.

intricate story
Revisado: 10-31-24
Having lived in that exact part of the country, I wish they'd either gotten someone with an actual Cajun accent or scrapped the idea all together. NEVER, living in Lafayette Louisiana did I hear it pronounced the way she pronounced it.
The story was good and at the end so sad. addiction, family dysfunction and bad choices often end sadly.

so colorfully written
Revisado: 08-27-24
this isn't what I usually listen to, I'll be honest, I was looking for something for a long drive. As the story continued I became more and more connected to the well developed characters, the complex story and the weaving of the journey through childhood into adulthood and all the happiness and sorrow that comes with it.
it's beautifully read and I am not sure if I would have enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed listening.
I loved it and I'm sad it's done.

probably one of the best audiobooks I've ever heard. The narration was great and truly brought the characters to life.
The twists were very interesting and I am sad that the book is over, truly a sign that I loved it.

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

coffee anyone?
Revisado: 05-30-21
if I never hear the word coffee again it may be too soon.
I can't imagine anyone could possibly be offered, buy, make or drink as much coffee as was mentioned here. At least not without creating a giant hole in their stomach
Maybe take some time to give the characters backgrounds, anecdotes something to round them out.
They're characters with no history , interests or outside lives. Make them more human.

Historia
Frigid February air has settled into the bones of the Blue Ridge Mountains, making for a slow foxhunting season, though “Sister” Jane Arnold’s enthusiasm is not so easily deterred. With the winter chill come tweed coats, blazing fireplaces - and perhaps another to share the warmth with, as the bold hunting scarlets worn by the men in Sister Jane’s hunting club make the hearts of women flutter - until someone’s stops entirely.
