Historia
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Same old
Revisado: 09-23-24
Just once can it be a regular old police procedural without domestic violence and child abuse? The author is quite taken with these themes, but it’s getting old. The characters are enjoyable and it would be nice a nice change to have just a good mystery that down not involve extreme abuse.

Does John Sanford know about this narrator?!?!
Revisado: 10-05-23
For years, I’ve looked forward to the release of a new Lucas or Virgil book. I understand that a new narrator was necessary, but this is ridiculous. He is so terrible that he ruins the story! Actually, I can’t even tell you if it’s a good story or not because I was so fixated on the terrible narration. He made Virgil sound like a trembling schoolgirl, which Virgil is clearly not. Help!!! Why wasn’t Virgil’s narrator used? And while I’m at it, why did the second Letty book have a male narrator? They should’ve stuck with the woman who read the first book. It’s completely ruining the John Sanford experience for me and I’m very sad because it was a mark your calendar type thing for me. I feel like I’ve never even met these characters before, when they were so deeply loved in the past. Bummer.

This installment in the Robin Lockwood series was contrived and boring. And, a magician? Ridiculous. Get back to the basics, which are good listens. Take a pass on this one.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 11-28-22
The story was interesting, but I could hardly get past the narrator. He sounded like he should be reading guides at a nursing home. I understand that some of the characters were retired, but he didn’t need to make them sound like they were 100. The book could go a lot further with a different narrator.

Sadly, this book was a disappointment in an otherwise fabulous series. Listening to the chatroom conversations was beyond painful. Those parts of the book ruined it, despite the wonderful characters.

I just don’t get it
Revisado: 03-12-22
Based on all of the stellar reviews I really truly wanted to love this book. Or at least like it. But I just don’t get it. It’s slow and it’s boring and it drags on and on and on. Don’t know why I put myself through it other than Julia Whelan was the narrator and she’s wonderful.

Narrator ruined the story
Revisado: 10-31-21
The narration on this book was nothing short of hideous—monotone and all characters ran together, making it impossible to follow the storyline. I was so looking forward to this book and had to finally quit and return. Such a disappointment.
