Historia
Our ability to prevent and reverse these conditions—and feel incredible today—is under our control and simpler than we think. The key is our metabolic function—the most important and least understood factor in our overall health. As Dr. Casey Means explains in this book, nearly every health problem we face can be explained by how well the cells in our body create and use energy. To live free from frustrating symptoms and life-threatening disease, we need our cells to be optimally powered so that they can create “good energy,” the essential fuel that impacts every aspect of our wellbeing.

Maybe the best nutrition book I’ve read!
Revisado: 05-10-23
Chuck full of actionable knowledge. Lustig sews it all together in a way we lay people can understand. This book should be required reading in high school. Would prolong lives, and more importantly, improve life by helping people live much healthier lives.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Thoroughly entertaining
Revisado: 02-10-23
I wondered if I'd be able to suspend belief and enjoy a book with an octopus as a main character. The answer is, yes, absolutely. This book kept me totally entertained. Well written characters. Van Pelt made me care about all of them, and now, 24 hours after I finished it, I keep thinking about the characters, and I'm still sad that it's over.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Listened for 34 minutes. So far, nothing likable. Horrible family, but he seems proud.
I want those 34 minutes back. Can’t figure out all those great reviews. Not for me.
Not a fan of pugilists. Disgusting behavior. Maybe it gets better. I’m not investing any more time.

Nothing new.
Revisado: 10-26-22
I'm several hours into this, and so far, have learned nothing new. If you've read David Sinclair's book and listened to various anti-aging podcasts, you won't learn anything here. My main gripe is that he's projecting the future but providing zero actionable content. I'm returning it.

most of this is not even connected to the vagus nerve. I am returning the book.
Revisado: 10-14-22
I’m shocked at how information about the vagus nerve is in this book. Happens a lot that people have really good information but it’s not enough for a book; so, they add a bunch of other tangentially or totally unrelated information. It may be good information, but it’s not what I bought the book for. How to lose weight. How to eat to reduce inflammation. How to sleep better. I already know that information from other books, and, it is wasting time my I wanted to learn about the vagus nerve.
Whole chapters don’t even mention it. I am returning the book.

Outdated. Flat out old, disproved information.
Revisado: 06-06-22
As soon as he referenced The China Study, I knew he was not relying on good research. Most people discounted that study, years ago. Just google "Problems with China Study."
He insists fish oil supplements have no value. Whaaaat? Listen to the latest experts and read the up to date research in 2022. I haven't heard any experts that would agree with him. They emphatically encourage supplementing with fish oil. The only debate is how much to take.
I almost didn't buy this when I saw it was published in 2015, but it said it was updated. Well, maybe in 2017, but I listen to podcasts and read books about anti-aging all the time, and this is outdated 2015 info.
He's right that improved diet can be huge, but don't we all know that? Stop eating processed foods and sugar, and you'll always dramatically improve health. And to out of hand just condemn all meat without even discussing organic grass fed and then to also discourage dairy and eggs??? I just couldn't continue. Returned it.

Historia
Mi-ja and Young-sook, two girls living on the Korean island of Jeju, are best friends who come from very different backgrounds. When they are old enough, they begin working in the sea with their village’s all-female diving collective, led by Young-sook’s mother. As the girls take up their positions as baby divers, they know they are beginning a life of excitement and responsibility but also danger. This beautiful, thoughtful novel illuminates a world turned upside down, one where the women are in charge, engaging in dangerous, physical work, and the men take care of the children.

Too much sadness for me
Revisado: 07-28-20
I wanted to listen because I felt I would learn about the culture, and to an extent it was fascinating. Even though I knew it was fiction, I had read that See does her research, and that it is educational in that sense. Sadly, though, I had to stop reading it. Too heart-wrenching. When the main character was forced to make a 'Sophie's Choice,' that was it.
