Historia
To be admired by someone we admire - we all yearn for this: the private, electrifying pleasure of being singled out by someone of esteem. But sometimes it can also mean entry to a new kind of life, a bigger world. Greer Kadetsky is a shy college freshman when she meets the woman she hopes will change her life. Faith Frank, dazzlingly persuasive and elegant at 63, has been a central pillar of the women’s movement for decades, a figure who inspires others to influence the world.

Not at all what I expected...it was better

“There are some people who have such a strong effect on you, even if you have spent very little time with them, they become embossed inside of you and any hint of them, any mention of them creates a stir inside of you.”
This was not at all what I was thinking it would be. I could not stop and read it in one day. It’s a great story that shows so many different points of views through the lenses of the different characters.
I love the ending where she talks about how maybe that’s what we as women are supposed to do, pour ourselves into each other...not giving too much...but enough to help build each other up!

Horrible ending! Enjoyed the story but found the ending to be a little too quick and forced. It ruined what was an engaging read!

Cute story, quick read. I was able to get drawn up in the story. I felt for the main character and her kids...not so much for the tech millionaire. I liked the flow of the story and the nice but not overly perfect ending.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Such a fascinating read. It had so much in it. I found myself talking about the Lusitania to random people. I definitely recommend this book, but still, favor his book the Devil in the White City.

Historia
When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today.

I genuinely love books like this. It is truly fascinating to consider all the ways the Bible was influenced, which makes me grateful for personal revelation.

Another book about blame and tearing others down
Revisado: 04-18-18
Any additional comments?
I really love this book. I found it so easy to read. Ng really develops characters and plots which makes the story engaging. I can't say that I agree with the tone or point of view of the story, essentially villanizing Elena Richardson, and victimizing Mia Warren, I feel both made poor decisions, which at the time they thought were good decisions...so why are we as a culture so into blaming and tearing one another down? Where is the story of how they were able to work out their differences? Where are the examples of open adoption?

Historia
Early one morning, less than a month after her 18th birthday, Alexandrina Victoria is roused from bed with the news that her uncle William IV has died, and she is now queen of England. The men who run the country have doubts about whether this sheltered young woman, who stands less than five feet tall, can rule the greatest nation in the world. Surely she must rely on her mother and her venal advisor, Sir John Conroy, or her uncle, the Duke of Cumberland, who are all too eager to relieve her of the burdens of power.

What an amazing story! It is equal parts heartbreaking and hope-filled. For my birthday in 2016, I asked for everyone to give me a book with an inscription about why they loved it. My best friend Stephanie gave me this book with the following inscription: "Happy Birthday! I'm so incredibly thankful you're in my life and that I'm lucky enough to have you as my dear, eternal friend. We understand each other as few do on this earth. You're my person. No, still no bodies to hide (yet). This book is about life and all of the crazy that comes with it...from the view of a dog. I hope it warms your heart as much as it did mine. I hope you're able to laugh, cry and wistfully appreciate life's simple lessons along with it. Love you and miss you (always).
The only negative is that it took me over a year and a half to get to it.

Really this is it?
Revisado: 04-18-18
Any additional comments?
It was hard not to fall in love with Me Before You....and I actually loved Me After You so much more than its predecessor that I was actually giddy and counting down the days for Still Me.
However, this book was boring! It was engaging right up to the point that the Will Trainer doppelgänger was insecure and overly apologetic. I can't even talk about how annoying he was as a character or how much I despised Louisa for being daft enough to be with him. Then the whole Sam and Katie mess. I wasn't looking for a picture perfect ending which is why the ending is so God awful...think Sleepless in Seattle...but I honestly wanted to invest in Louisa again. I wanted to be happy for her and enjoy her growth, see her come into her own again, but I couldn't because I found her annoying and making poor decisions and just so dull. I feel as if I have been punked...like this can't be the actual ending.

Meh! It was hard to follow with the jumping around...and I hate that he, like so many, described lust between two people as love!
