Historia
Laid off from her department store job, Carmen has perilously little cash and few options. The prospect of spending Christmas with her perfect sister Sofia, in Sofia’s perfect house with her perfect children and her perfectly ordered yuppie life, does not appeal. Frankly, Sofia doesn’t exactly want her prickly sister Carmen there, either. But Sofia has yet another baby on the way, a mother desperate to see her daughters get along, and a client who needs help revitalizing his shabby old bookshop. So Carmen moves in and takes the job.

Couldn’t listen because of awful narrator
Revisado: 11-23-21
Why does Jenny always choose such terrible narrators? I couldn’t even get through the first chapter.

A great glimpse at a little known event
Revisado: 05-14-21
An honest look at life in Paris during and immediately after the war. The pairing of this story with a young girl’s life in 1980s Montana shows that the backdrops may change, but human nature stay the same. I highly recommend The Paris Library.

The narrator was annoying
Revisado: 03-02-21
I ended up having to stop listening and read the Kindle version. Great story, engaging characters, but man, obnoxious female narrator. Don’t Jude the book by the reader.

Historia
Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

So many twist and turns Great Book!
Revisado: 01-03-21
I really like Fredrick Backman. I’ve read many of his books. This may be one of my favorites. So we’ll written. So many layers. Unpredictable, engaging, and satisfying. I laughed and cried and gasped through the whole thing. Worth your time

Historia
Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) is one of the world's best-selling, most cherished authors of children's literature whose books have enchanted generations for over a hundred years. Yet how she achieved this legendary status is just one of several stories of her remarkable and surprising life. Inspired by her 23 "tales", Matthew Dennison takes a selection of quotations from Potter's stories and uses them to explore her multifaceted life and character: repressed Victorian daughter; thwarted lover; artistic genius; formidable countrywoman.

Revisado: 01-02-21
Written in an engaging manner. Lovely narration. I learned new insights into Ms. Potter’s life. Marveled at all she endure both health and family issues. She grew in confidence and strength as she aged. Reinventing herself many times.

I didn’t know anything about Olive McCloud. This book is a great way to get to know her and get a view of colonial Africa. Amazing adventures, good relationships, great descriptions of lands, people, and animals.
