A fantastic spin-off from the world of the Paper Magician! I really loved seeing Bennett find love, an I adore Alvie as a character. Absolutely fantastic book.

I couldn't put it down
Revisado: 08-29-22
I adore fairytales, and this telling is one of the best. My mom has been telling me to read Shannon Hale for years, and now I understand why.

All of the stories are so fun, and the narrator is wonderful to listen to. She brings a child-like wonder to each tale.

Historia
Danny joined the Marines in 1967 and saw some of the worst fighting of the Vietnam War. Continually bombarded by the enemy, never knowing if he would live or die, each day was kill or be killed. Then his best friend and fellow Marine was injured by a mine and he was unable to save him. He was forced to listen to his friend’s cries for help until he died. Danny became angry, depressed, and numb. The only thing that made him feel alive again was killing. He came home from the war with a bad case of PTSD and couldn’t adapt to normal life.

Narrator is Awful
Revisado: 04-25-22
The narrator focuses so much on doing bad voices that he doesn't bother to make sure that he reads the right words. And he didn't even bother to edit his mistakes for nearly ten chapters! So he keeps stopping mid-sentence to start over, and I can't keep track of what's going on. The story would be amazing with a decent narrator.

So fascinating!
Revisado: 01-06-22
So, a bit of background. Dr. Carlisle was my grandfather, and my father is the narrator. It took me years to get around to finally reading/listening to this book, because I grew up hearing stories about Ted Bundy directly from my grandfather. I have heard the phone call from Colorado. But listening to the full evaluation was incredible. Hearing the testimonies of people who knew Ted was so incredibly powerful. Hearing his responses to the tests was so fascinating. I wish I hadn't put off listening so long. I love psychology, and this is an amazing look into the development of the violent mind.
