Historia
Maria Florkowska is many things: daughter, avid chess player, and, as a member of the Polish underground resistance in Nazi-occupied Warsaw, a young woman brave beyond her years. Captured by the Gestapo, she is imprisoned in Auschwitz, but while her family is sent to their deaths, she is spared. Realizing her ability to play chess, the sadistic camp deputy, Karl Fritzsch, decides to use her as a chess opponent to entertain the camp guards. However, once he tires of exploiting her skills, he has every intention of killing her.

Forgotten Saga of unnecessary misuse
Revisado: 09-05-18
Fine research, story presentation, and narration, of a forgotten catastrophe in American history now conjured up in our memories only by black and white snippets from an American classic novel and award-winning motion picture.
The true account told here highlights how little was told to us in our historical teachings about the true causation of this catastrophic decade in this area of our country, or about the true suffering it brought about to our displaced Native Americans, the innocent horses, cattle and livestock, and people driven by either greed, blind ambition, or dreams of attaining a stakehold to provide for their families and future generations, and the land that was brutally forced out of it's true and natural purpose into into something it could never sustain.

Historia
Paul Schumann, a German American living in New York City in 1936, is a mobster hitman known as much for his brilliant tactics as for taking only "righteous" assignments. But then Paul gets caught. And the arresting officer offers him a stark choice: prison or covert government service. Paul is asked to pose as a journalist covering the summer Olympics taking place in Berlin. He's to hunt down and kill Reinhard Ernst - the ruthless architect of Hitler's clandestine rearmament.

Great narration and historical perspective.
Revisado: 06-20-18
Narrator was outstanding, and such great accents. He was telling a story, not reading it. I will definitely follow this narrator.
Great plot and interesting perspective on what it was probably like living under the 3rd Reich. Brutal, sad, and scary. A good reminder what it could be like to live under a sadistic dictatorship.

Donald Trump is unlike any president we've ever had. He is the only person ever elected to be commander in chief who has not first held public office or served as a general in the military. His principles grow out of five decades of business and celebrity success - not politics - so he behaves differently from traditional politicians.

Light on Trump, Heavy on the Gingrich Manifrsto
Revisado: 07-23-17
Disappointed, as a fan of Trump I was looking for more behind the scenes stories about his childhood, career, and the actual working of the campaign. Instead we get a gloss over of all of that, and the last two thirds of the book on what Gingrich would do. He has some great ideas he but did Trump a disservice by sneaking them into a book that was supposed to be about Trump. Will be hard for me to view Gingrich the same again, now that I know what he's really about. Self serving. I'm glad Trump had sense enough not to bring him into the administration.

Good history - Annoying narration
Revisado: 02-11-17
Very interesting for a newbie to this important and interesting history of the region. I found the narrator a bit annoying, especially, about 100 times throughout the course his asking a question and then saying "you got it" like a half second after the question. About half way through I found myself shouting back at him #you got it" before he even said it, which most of the time he did. I'm surprised no one caught that, or that he wasn't annoyed at himself.

Interesting insight but more like a rote memoir
Revisado: 02-06-13
More like a diary or chronology of events than a story. Could have been more dramatic in the storytelling even though it was true. My attention was kept more by the importance of the historical event than the drama, character development, or narration.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Starkness and Fortitude is Riveting
Revisado: 01-30-13
Entertaining and educational from beginning to end. Everyone would benefit from knowing about the stark harsh reality of the extremes of our planet, and what people have endured to explore and survive to tell about it. Amazing how man can adapt and overcome. A rewarding listen no matter what your genre. This one is worth the time.

Educational and Entertaining but a bit repetitive
Revisado: 01-02-13
I enjoy any history book and probably ignore more than the average reader in story or performance shortcomings. This book contained a wealth of history and unique perspective, although I found it somewhat repetitive. The performance and production was good and easy to follow and listen to, but I don't think many non-history buffs would have stuck with it.
