Lol. Srsly it’s one minute of the author talking *about* the book. Not the book. Caveat emptor.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Amazing. Very, very surprising.

I feel like saying almost anything about this book could constitute a spoiler. I thought it would be “fun“… And it didn’t disappoint. But it far, far, FAR exceeded my expectations. And then some.
I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time. Wow.

What a nice surprise
Revisado: 10-11-17
Picked this up out of curiosity (at a discount as the Daily Deal) and was pleasantly surprised. Paul Rudd as Einstein? Yes, actually. And it works! It was clever, fun, engaging, and actually provided some uncommonly clear & vivid illustrations of relativity. (The title is actually quite brilliant...) Bonus points for the author's conversation with Rudd at the end of the recording — it's clear they were both delighted and their fascination & enthusiasm is contagious. It is very likely i will be listening to this one again.

Best book on parenthood I've read
Revisado: 02-24-15
Intelligent and surprisingly funny, Valenti clearly articulates many of the "something's not right here" gut feelings I've had when reading other books on parenting. Highly recommended.

Historia
Nintendo has continually set the standard for video game innovation in America, starting in 1981 with a plucky hero who jumped over barrels to save a girl from an ape. The saga of Mario, the portly plumber who became the most successful franchise in the history of gaming, has plot twists worthy of a video game. Jeff Ryan shares the story of how this quintessentially Japanese company found success in the American market.

doesn't disappoint…
Revisado: 01-29-14
What did you like best about Super Mario? What did you like least?
This book promises to be fun, and the history of the gaming industry is so full of twists that the author doesn't have to work hard to keep it interesting. And he didn't — or rather it may be that Mr. Ryan in fact tried too hard: sometimes the author's bombastic "voice" distracts from the plot. Each chapter is saturated with goofy comparisons, groan-inducing puns and corny jokes.
That's a small price to pay for such a great story — and you *could* argue that his style suits the subject matter… if you think Mario is sort of a dork.
What didn’t you like about Ray Porter’s performance?
Porter's narration takes the text at face value and then hams it up even further with seemingly sincere exuberance… this is a bit hard to take when the text itself veers into silly lists of Mario merchandise. But that's not Porter's fault. His performance does justice to the book. (For better or worse.)
Was Super Mario worth the listening time?
i was genuinely interested in learning about the history, and the book was actually very informative — i thought i knew a thing or two before, but there were plenty of fascinating surprises. All in all: a little trivial, but pretty good fun.
Any additional comments?
Try listening to it when you'd rather be playing Super Mario, but have to do something else instead.
