Still fun
Revisado: 01-04-22
I have to admit that this series has been a guilty pleasure of mine. The story itself is nothing extraordinary but it is still a lot of fun. This entry in the series is definitely worth a read, some of the worst problems of earlier entries are less apparent as we see fewer historical characters showing up and derailing the story with unnatural dialogue. Again the highlight of the book are the portions giving the Martian perspective of events.

The odds seem overwhelming, and it will take all Yozef can do, the courage of his new people, and luck, to survive.

Some interesting ideas but disappointing overall
Revisado: 01-04-22
This book has many of the same problems as the first in the series but they are more apparent here. The author has a tendency to repeat basic background information and plot ideas over and over in the same language as though the reader would not be aware of the basic premise of the story by now. The criticisms in other reviews concerning the author's writing of women characters are somewhat valid - I was expecting these to have been overblown but some of the middle chapters become quite cringe-inducing and really read like some weird erotic fantasies. Like the first book the pacing is very slow until the final few chapters when things pick up. Honestly, I'm still interested in following the story but I don't think I can justify paying for additional books in the series since it feels like their may well be only book or two of actual material across the entire series. That being said if this was included in the plus catalog or went on sale, it might be worth it.
