Carrie is so grateful that she can call 99 Nightingale Lane home, and Christmas promises are to be one to cherish with her dear friends around her and the first one her son John will remember, but a cloud hangs over her happiness. Arnold Bateman, Carrie's estranged husband is back in Whitechapel. He has made it clear to Carrie that he wants her back, not to be a husband to her, but simply for what she now owns. Unknown to Carrie, he has visited the house on many occasions to persuade her but has received constant rebuttals from Ida Coyle, Carrie's loyal cook.

Never a dull moment
Revisado: 11-05-21
Carrie has the most trying life. Everything goes wrong but as she perseveres she solves things. Not always as wanted or expected but solved anyway. From preemies to arrests the plot thickens. I love this story even though it involves a lot of darkness it also shares how to be kind and help others even when your down. The narrator is still wonderful and I hope they keep her for the rest of the series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Carrie just can't catch a break
Revisado: 11-04-21
Carrie has a great attitude about life but everything that could go wrong seems to. A war is a terrible thing but it seems the tragedies should be spread around more. This journey with Carrie is full of tension, life lessons, and where she can get it, happiness for others. This story is so well written and the narrator is very good. I have warmed to this story and will continue to complete the series as it appears. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Another wonderful part of life with Carrie
Revisado: 11-02-21
You go Carrie! This story gets better with each part. The narrator keeps in the background while bringing the story to life. So much changes here and I am so proud of Carrie for standing by and helping Pearl. What a wonderful thing Carrie does for her brother and for 99 Nightingale Lane. And in the end she gets back because of what she has put out for others. Definitely continuing this journey through the series. Historia
Carrie Dobbs and Arnold Bateman have arrived in India. The journey from Bombay to Secunderabad is arduous - hot, uncomfortable, and with little to eat but unfamiliar food. But when she steps over the threshold of the bungalow she and her baby son John are to share with Bateman, she realizes that nothing could have prepared her for the life she is now expected to live.

Revisado: 11-01-21
Continuing with Carrie's journey and to see her take control where she can is such an adventure. This series is very well written, with wonderful characters that are realistic for the times and locations in this story. There is constant tension yet beautiful moments too. I recommend this series so far and will continue to listen. This narrator does a wonderful job. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Lovely story
Revisado: 11-01-21
This is a real pleasure to hear. The story is desperate for Carrie and it seems to bring you down into the drudge of life, however, as you read you are able to share in how the downtrodden can encourage each other as well as provide support. You see how the lower classes are so different from the higher classes and neither really see how the other lives. And then there are those special people who can appreciate all classes and offer friendship and support across the lines. Carrie is learning life's lessons and decided to roll with the punches rather than give herself over to despair. I look forward to continuing the journey in the series. The narration is very well read and I forget that the narrator is there as I listen. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Loved this listen
Revisado: 03-29-21
My son, who is blind, and I listened to the audio version of this title and loved it. He was hesitant at first to read it but ended up hooked. The characters are real life and interesting. The adventure takes you where you have never been and never thought to be. The story shows people as they tend to be yet it shows both the good and bad side of us all. It brings you to think about what you know about those around you and wonder if you are deceived. The narration was hesitant at first then became quite well done. The ending leaces room for a hoped for series.

Don't lose your head...
Revisado: 01-05-20
I've heard many versions of the legend of sleepy hollow over the years, but this particular version with excellent actors, very atmospheric music, and a gale of ghost stories within the classic tale, perfectly captures the feel of the original Washington Ircing story. It comes highly recommended to any fan of the original tale or anyone that simply wants to feel their blood run cold.
