Historia
Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows. Genevieve rose from the ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her - until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school.

Historia
Chicago obstetrician Mackenzie “Mac” Huntress set her standards for men very high early on. It’s been over twenty years since she fell for a fictional movie heartthrob, and Mac’s content to wait for the real version to come along; it’s her nagging mother who’s not happy with the timeline. So Mac falls back on her lifelong Mom-surviving skill - lying. The latest fabrication: a handsome neurologist named Michael. But when Mac’s little sister announces her engagement, Mac is expected to introduce her elusive “plus-one” at the wedding.

I love X E Sands. She saved this book.

I am glad the book had excitement in the end. Otherwise I kept thinking that the main character Mack was, despite being a doctor, not believable. It was just okay

The narration was amazing and the storyline really interesting. I figured out the murderer early but it didn’t impact my enjoyment. Loved it.

The day Shane boarded the plane for basic training, I was happy for him. He escaped a life we both despised. Then he was killed in action before I had the chance to tell him I loved him. Now I write letters he'll never read. Talk to a cold gravestone, heard only by the wind...and maybe that guy in a baseball cap I only glimpse before he disappears.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

This book was amazing. The characters are richly developed, believable and thought provoking. I will read any and all of McBride’s books but cannot see how this book, can be topped. I simply loved it!

I didn’t understand why they did not report Eve’s death to the police. Scott was of age and was the father. Jo was more complicit by taking Eve’s identity. In the end, teenagers make dumb decisions.

Reminded Me of how I grew up
Revisado: 12-09-23
I loved this book. I too, had summers like Robyn described. Idyllic and bonding. We suffered the death of an Aunt to cancer which changed the dynamic and a terrible relationship between my father and brother. In all, like Meghan and Charlie, I wouldn’t change a thing. This book moved me

Kitty Harris has it all: cosily coupled up with boyfriend Archie, she’s putting in the hours at an ad agency to land her dream job. OK, so maybe they’ve become a bit too comfortable in their routine, with pizza night every Thursday, and maybe the agency isn’t so much up-and-coming as been-and-gone, but Kitty is happy. Until one diamond ring sitting pretty in her pepperoni ruins everything. Kitty does NOT want to get married, not after being caught in the crosshairs of her parent’s destructive divorce.

Fabulous narration and story
Revisado: 11-08-23
I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I was frustrated with Leo at times and some of his actions seemed weak. Kitty was perfection in her growth over time. I gave the story a 4 star because of Leo’s character. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this. The narration was amazing.

Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.
