Historia
When Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore dies, she’s not only North Carolina’s richest woman, she’s also its most notorious. The victim of a famous kidnapping as a child and a widow four times over, Ruby ruled the tiny town of Tavistock from Ashby House, her family’s estate high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But in the aftermath of her death, her adopted son, Camden, wants little to do with the house or the money—and even less to do with the surviving McTavishes.

Great story and wonderful narration
Revisado: 10-29-24
I really enjoyed the story and the twist at the end was a nice surprise. It normally always figure out the “twist”. This time I didn’t.
For me the only downside was the amount of swearing. It was ridiculous. I’m not a prude who thinks that there should never be a curse word. But, this author went way over the top. There wasn’t a single section that didn’t include the f-word and numerous others. It took away from the story and lost any impact or emphasis it could have had. It winded up sounded by like a teenager who has just learned naughty words and uses every opportunity to use them.
The story itself was very good and the narrators were wonderful. I only removed story stars for the amount of cursing. It’s still well with the listen or read.

Great story telling and wonderful narration!
Revisado: 05-28-24
This is the third book that I’ve read/listened to by Allen Eskens. I’ve really enjoyed all of them and look forward to discovering more by this author. Just a wonderful story teller and that is so hard to find these days. Tells you a story with great characters and no unrealistic twists that make absolutely no sense. You care about the characters and are rooting for them, but rarely have a clue how it will all wind up in the end. Just a great read all the way through. Can’t recommend it enough!

Historia
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

All around wonderful story
Revisado: 05-07-24
I very rarely leave a written review unless it’s incredibly awful or incredibly wonderful. This book falls into the latter category. Interesting characters that are well written, a compelling story that made me want to keep listening long after I should have been in bed. It starts slowly and while some people might find this frustrating (I do as well sometimes), it works for this story. The author develops the characters which allows us to know them and root for them. The narrators were wonderful and definitely understood the tone that the author was trying to achieve. This was just a well done, beautiful story. It reminds me of the books that I loved when I was little- it takes the time and tells you a story. There are no twists or unresolved plot points. 100% satisfying!! I have never read this author before, but I am looking forward to discovering more unexpected gems!

Very Good Story
Revisado: 01-16-24
Interesting story that wasn’t by the numbers. Great narrators who helped the story along as opposed to the ones that take you out of it. Very rarely leave reviews, usually only the really horrible ones or the excellent ones. This was definitely one of the latter.

In the lucrative world of finance, Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are at the top of their game. They’ve mastered the art of the deal and celebrate their success in style - but a life of extreme luxury always comes at a cost. Invited to participate in an escape room as a team-building exercise, the ferociously competitive co-workers crowd into the elevator of a high rise building, eager to prove themselves. But when the lights go off and the doors stay shut, it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary competition: they’re caught in a dangerous game of survival.

Very Enjoyable!
Revisado: 03-05-23
I enjoyed this story very much. Very original and well crafted. This is my favorite genre (thrillers), but lately it seems like there is an over abundance of cookie cutter books out. This one has a great unique storyline and was very fast paced. The narration was strong and I’m looking forward to finding more hidden gems from this author.

Vega Jones escapes an abusive relationship with nothing but her two-month-old baby and the van she grew up in. Her destination is a small Ohio town her late vagabond mother left years ago. It’s one full of nobodies, her mother warned. That makes it the ideal refuge for Vega to lie low, feel safe, and maybe learn more about a past her mother never spoke of.

Surprisingly Moving
Revisado: 03-03-23
A slow burn of a story. The tension builds a little more with each chapter. Satisfying and well written. The narration was strong. Not typically something I would read, but I’m very glad I gave it a chance.
