Historia
On the night Rune’s life changed forever, blood ran in the streets. Now, in the aftermath of a devastating revolution, witches have been diminished from powerful rulers to outcasts ruthlessly hunted due to their waning magic, and Rune must hide what she is. Spending her days pretending to be nothing more than a vapid young socialite, Rune spends her nights as the Crimson Moth, a witch vigilante who rescues her kind from being purged. When a rescue goes wrong, she decides to throw the witch hunters off her scent and gain the intel she desperately needs by courting the handsome Gideon Sharpe.

3.5⭐️ - better than expected
Revisado: 02-19-25
This book definitely exceeded my expectations. The larger plot had more twists and turns than I anticipated, and while the romantic dynamic was intriguing, some of the stereotypical setups flopped for me. However, the way these setups played out kept me engaged. I will say I hate that one of the major turning points hinges on miscommunication—so frustrating. And while it leans heavily on cliché romance tropes, I genuinely couldn’t predict where the story was going (which is a good thing).
We’ve got the classic “special girl” underdog who is "stuck" choosing between TWO boys (a staple in fantasy/sci-fi over the last two decades). This love triangle just feels like a crutch for the author. OF COURSE she's choosing between the brooding, emotionally unavailable guy vs. the sweet, loyal childhood friend who’s of course been in love with her forever, but she’s oblivious. Oh and did I mention they're brothers? Lastly, the brooding guy is on the opposing team—hello, Romeo and Juliet.
Despite my ire towards the cliche love friend AND the fact that I’m not much of a romance reader, I found their relationship compelling. Their relationship felt like a strategic game and I'm a SUCKER for a good puzzle. Watching them navigate that dynamic was entertaining. HOWEVER, I did not need every explicit detail of their ONE night together. At one point, the male lead was talking about eating her out on the stairs??? I'm scared. And then... he didn’t even do it? WHY did I have to sit through that? Ick.
Despite my grievances with the predictable elements and having to read about their literal intercourse, I really enjoyed the broader storyline about rebellion and the state of the kingdom (government? empire? whatever it is). The book ends on a strong cliffhanger, and while I think we all know where Book 2 is headed, I hope it will push the characters into new territory and avoid some of the overused tropes that Ciccarelli leaned on in the first book.

Fun story!
Revisado: 01-25-25
You’re along for the ride this one. I like how the mystery resolves but am a little annoyed because I feel like the audience didn’t get the chance to figure it out. Great story though, really fun story telling

Historia
Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter. And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan.

cute attempt at a meaningful story
Revisado: 08-14-24
I genuinely think this was a valiant attempt at telling a meaningful story, however I think it just fell flat. The author’s prose is too elementary and she tells more than she shows, even over explains some things. This would make a sweet and redemptive bedtime story but nothing more.

Historia
The city of Bulikov once wielded the powers of the gods to conquer the world, enslaving and brutalizing millions - until its divine protectors were killed. Now Bulikov has become just another colonial outpost of the world's new geopolitical power, but the surreal landscape of the city itself - first shaped, now shattered, by the thousands of miracles its guardians once worked upon it - stands as a constant, haunting reminder of its former supremacy. Into this broken city steps Shara Thivani.

Since Blake Healy was a child, he has seen angels, demons, and other spiritual realities. He sees them with the naked eye as clearly as anything else. In his latest book, he gives listeners a peek behind the veil as he shows them how the physical and spiritual realms connect. Known for his rich storytelling and vivid descriptions, Healy takes listeners on a journey through everyday events—a trip to a grocery store, a family dinner, a busy workday—and helps them see how what is happening in the spirit is affected by the way we live our daily lives.

so good!
Revisado: 03-14-23
As with all earthly writers I’m not sure he gets it 100% right but I really appreciate that he doesn’t claim to and that he emphasizes how important the Bible and a relationship with the Holy Spirit is. There is something weird going on with the audio in the last half hour of the book but otherwise the reading itself is great!

A good story
Revisado: 01-10-22
I am not someone who typically enjoys romance but this was a good romance book. It had lots of action and adventure mixed in and the romance isn’t too cheesy. It also has a hint of magic which always makes everything better. The narrator uses an accent which is fitting for a pirate so she helps bring the story to life. So good and a very easy read 10/10.
