Historia
The year 1996 was the one that changed everything for Maggie Dawes. Sent away at 16 to live with an aunt she barely knew in Ocracoke, a remote village on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, she could think only of the friends and family she left behind...until she met Bryce Trickett, one of the few teenagers on the island. Handsome, genuine, and newly admitted to West Point, Bryce showed her how much there was to love about the wind-swept beach town - and introduced her to photography, a passion that would define the rest of her life. By 2019, Maggie is a renowned travel photographer.

Historia
In 1954, 63-year-old Maine farmer Annie Wilkins embarked on an impossible journey. She had no money and no family, she had just lost her farm, and her doctor had given her only two years to live. But Annie wanted to see the Pacific Ocean before she died. She ignored her doctor’s advice to move into the county charity home. Instead, she bought a cast-off brown gelding named Tarzan, donned men’s dungarees, and headed south in mid-November, hoping to beat the snow.

History and setting
Revisado: 02-11-25
This was a great story of determination. I learned a more things than the review could hold. Something I will mention. The mind set of residents of Maine was clearly shown in Annie’s determination & her boldness in knocking on people’s doors. Then her appreciation of people’s kindness. And wanting to pay her own way.
My favorite part were the many descriptions of the states she crossed and the history of regular American life in the 1950’s.
The four stars o. Performance was only because at times the voice became rather monotone as though reading only facts. I liked the beaks between chapters. The length was just right

This was History
Revisado: 01-28-25
The book was excellently researched. It felt as accurate as the scientific studies her subjects were conducting. The history of the time of WWII was just as well researched as the lives of the 4 women she was writing about. I learned much from this book. I believe it was so accurate any researcher of science, WWII or women’s equality and the plight of refugees, could benefit from using it as a resource, for their paper or a speech.
The difference in distance and time it took to communicate was stark against out immediate flash of the computer age. The stubbornness of belief or unbelief in an unbearable situation has remained.

The Amazing Life of Azalea Lane.
Revisado: 12-15-24
This is a good mystery series for age group stated in the description.
The relationships between characters was clear. Azalea was placed under pressure from her school work and the demands of her little sister. There was more than one mystery in the plot; keeping listener’s interest.
The reader’s pronunciation and voice were clear. The only problem were many unexpected hesitations in the recording. The listener had to be patient, then the story would resume.

Historia
The Trail is a moving story of how nature helps us find what’s missing in our lives. The tale begins with Gil, who in the wake of his father’s death and recently fired from his job, agrees to accompany his father’s old hiking partner Syd on a month-long trek on the John Muir Trail. There’s just one problem: Gil hates camping and is woefully unprepared for the rigors of the journey. Moreover, he soon learns Syd may not survive the hike.

A Trail of scenic philosophy
Revisado: 12-06-24
The description of the beauty of the mountain trail was breathtaking. The sharing of opinions & ideas between Gill & Cid as well as the hikers they met & camped near; refreshing! The suspense of: “will they complete the trail ?“ ; “will they live through it?” kept me listening avidly like hiking boots steadily tramping along the easy parts of a hike. The history of the JMT renewed my long set aside interest in reading John Muir’s writing. The Eastern philosophy was fascinating. Wondering who grew from the experience of The Trail was not fully revealed until the wonderful wrap-up. It’s likely true that not only the characters in book grew.

Historia
In Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, novelist Jennifer Chiaverini presents a stunning account of the friendship that blossomed between Mary Todd Lincoln and her seamstress, Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Keckley, a former slave who gained her professional reputation in Washington, D.C. by outfitting the city’s elite. Keckley made history by sewing for First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln within the White House, a trusted witness to many private moments between the President and his wife, two of the most compelling figures in American history.

Admiration for our 16th President
Revisado: 11-24-24
The book was well researched. The characters well developed. The reality of Mr. Lincoln integrity and intelligence and faith in God beautifully and warmly stated made him more real than our history books
have presented despite their efforts to relay his greatness. I am glad I read this book because of gaining that insight. I loved Elizabeth’s careful and thoughtful answers to Mrs. Lincoln’s many worries and very real heartbreaks. I liked the history of sewing of the beautiful gowns of the 1800’s that was the backdrop for this historical novel. It is amazing and unsurpassed that such garments could be sewn by hand of such lovely fabric, lace and ribbon. Much admiration to the skills of the seamstresses of the era. And especially to Elizabeth for her grace in difficult situations.

The great suspense
Revisado: 11-05-24
Good reader!
The story was full of well rounded likable characters, easy to keep track of. The author had each of them tell their stories. The listener wanted the best for each of them. How that was going to happen, remained a mystery until the end

Cultures are valuable
Revisado: 09-19-24
I liked it all. Perhaps the attitude of the
Tween against her parents was a bit prolonged. Thankfully that came to an end. When it did the riveting story began! I could hardly wait for the chance to listen each day, Thank you for such a heart felt story drawing attention to the pain and loss suffered when cultural differences are not respected. This book needs to be read by many people to be sure that acts of dehumanizing others stops.
