Historia
It was just one date. My friend told me I needed more fun in my life, so I reluctantly said yes. Fun wasn’t exactly in my wheelhouse. After watching my own mother’s love life implode time and time again, it’s only natural that I have a few rules to protect myself. Actually, it’s just one rule: avoid relationships with men so I don’t get attached. This guy was just a warm body in a chair. I was here for the basketball game. I was absolutely NOT here for my date. Or the kiss cam. Or the kiss. Or the impromptu evening with the one man who seems bent on throwing my tidy world off of its axis.

Lord Benning is no ordinary nobleman. The heir to an earldom, he feels more at home working on the farm at his country estate than socializing in the ballrooms of London. So when a mysterious, veiled woman mistakes him for a farmhand, he takes the assumption in stride. And though he is not offended, he is intrigued.

Love this series and the autism rep
Revisado: 08-24-24
This whole series is delightful and the mystery is always unexpected. LOVE the autism rep that is done so well as well as the historical tidbits that are so well researched. I hope this series goes on for many more books.

A great historical mystery with a great heroine
Revisado: 06-24-24
I was skeptical about the mystery but this book delivered.
I loved the historical tidbits throughout in a time period I haven’t read much about.
Great mystery, fun predicaments, and a bit of romance too!
Will definitely be reading more by this author!

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Charming but profanity tarnished it a bit for me
Revisado: 02-16-23
Charming story, great characters, well-written, and performed. There is a sex scene and a lot of f-words. Kind of ruined some of the charm for me.

It was great up until the last quarter of the book
Revisado: 12-16-22
I just didn’t like the character development at one of the big plot twists. It didn’t feel organic to me and it felt forced. That being said, there were lots of other great plot twists. And every other characters development felt organic and very natural. They felt like real people with real human reactions except for one of the major characters and I can’t say more without spoiling it. I know a lot of people really liked it and I can see why because of the plot twists, and it is very compelling story.
Also, there was a ton of profanity in the book which is not really my style. It also made it really difficult to listen to in the car with my kids in the back.

Historia
Cecilia Bassingwaite is the ideal Victorian lady. She's also a thief. Like the other members of the Wisteria Society crime sorority, she flies around England drinking tea, blackmailing friends, and acquiring treasure by interesting means. Sure, she has a dark and traumatic past and an overbearing aunt, but all things considered, it's a pleasant existence. Until the men show up.

Not for me
Revisado: 12-13-22
I wish I had read more of the reviews. It seems a bit wordy for my taste, and not quirky enough or witty enough. Instead, my impression is that it seems like a ridiculous sort of humor; ridiculous, as in Mrs. Bennett and Mr. Collins level, ridiculous versus Austin land quirky. I’m only a couple of chapters in, but I can already tell that I’m not the right audience.

I wanted to like this so bad
Revisado: 03-23-22
I loved Axie Oh’s XOXO so I bought this one without knowing too much about it. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I tried to return it, but wasn’t allowed for various reasons.
Other reviewers say it has a “Spirited Away” feel to it and that is true. However, unlike Spirited Away the heroine falls flat. She has no real goal and no real risks if she doesn’t accomplish her goals. There are too many characters that are too similar such as Shin and Naangi and the other boy that is in their group. The obvious problem is never addressed and when there are complications, they aren’t clearly spelled out.
Very disappointed. If you want to explore the Spirit World that our heroine finds herself in, then great. If you want a main character who is striving for a specific goal against great odds, taking great risks to do so, then this isn’t the book for you.

Historia
The Lockwood brothers are supposed to be able to survive anything. Their dad, a hardcore believer in self-reliance, has stockpiled enough food and water at their isolated Nevada home to last for months. But when they are robbed of all their supplies during a massive blackout while their dad is out of town, John and Stew must walk 96 miles in the stark desert sun to get help. Along the way, they’re forced to question their dad’s insistence on self-reliance and ask just what it is that we owe to our neighbors, our kin, and to ourselves.

Making state book lists for a reason
Revisado: 03-26-21
Wow!
From page one J. L. Esplin keeps you on the edge of your seat with captivating characters in desperate circumstances. It’s a survival suspense-thriller that is a perfect read or listen aloud for tweens/teens.
The narrator does a stellar job and fans of Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet will not be disappointed.
Looking forward to seeing more books by this very talented author.
