Historia
You’ve heard of the Afterlife. Welcome to the Beforelife. There are four of us: Samuel, Lucy, Thomas, and me – Eliza. We came into being the day Becca Valentine was born. We’ve been by her side ever since. What she doesn’t know yet, is that one day she might become our mother. Then two men come into her life. Both seeking her heart. And then we realise: everything rests on Becca’s love story. Because one of the men is Lucy and Thomas’s father. And the other is mine and Samuel’s. And there’s simply no way we can all be born.

Loved the concept of the before life and Eliza. Beautifully read. I wondered whether Thomas and Eliza might be Lucy’s kids at the end.

Unexpected
Revisado: 10-26-24
This was not the type of novel I was expecting from Matt Haig having read How to Stop Time and the Midnight Library but that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it because I very much did and found myself laughing out loud at points. Loved the setting, the characters and the plot. It just shows our versatile an author Matt Haig is. I think Joanna Lumley did a very good audio.

Historia
Mabel Beaumont’s husband Arthur loved lists. He’d leave them for her everywhere. ‘Remember: eggs, butter, sugar’. ‘I love you: today, tomorrow, always’. But now Arthur is gone. He died: softly, gently, not making a fuss. But he’s still left her a list. This one has just one item on it though: ‘Find D’. Mabel feels sure she knows what it means. She must track down her best friend Dot, who she hasn’t seen since the fateful day she left more than sixty years ago.

Want to hear it all over again...
Revisado: 05-24-20
I loved One day in December so I was eager to get stuck into this. I listened to nearly 4 hours in one day. I was desperate to hear how Jonah and Lydia would eventually come together but I was also so upset to finish this book. I wanted it to go on and on! I can completely imagine this as a film. This and One Day in December. Descriptions were so vivid, it completely brought the book to life. I was shocked to hear at the Q and A at the end that the author hadn’t lost anyone significant and had written based on forums she had read. She captures grief so perfectly and the cemetery kit really hit home for me. I have a friend who lost her partner and got together with his best friend and is blissfully married with kids. So I pictured this ending for Lydia and Jonah as well. Thank you for a wonderful book and an amazing audio performance. Loved the different accents and intonations for the different characters.
