Historia
After Tripoli declared war on the United States in 1801, Barbary pirates captured 300 U.S. sailors and marines. President Jefferson sent navy squadrons to the Mediterranean, but he also authorized a secret mission to overthrow the government of Tripoli. He chose an unlikely diplomat, William Eaton, to lead the mission, but before Eaton departed, Jefferson grew wary of the affair and withdrew his support.

Butchered narrative
Revisado: 07-13-24
I’ve listened to over 250 Audible titles.
Raymond Todd is probably the worst narrator of all time. He made a great story filled with dramatic moments, humor, and sarcasm, a flat, tedious listen. It could have been five stars all around. It’s not all his fault. For some reason, the audio editors almost throw in the next chapter title so quickly before Raymond Todd completes the last sentence of the chapter.
I do appreciate the depth of research that revealed many facts that I was unaware of history.

Historia
Admiral Horatio Hornblower has given Commander William Brewer captaincy of the captured pirate sloop El Dorado. Now under sail as the HMS Revenge, its new name suits Brewer's frame of mind perfectly. He lost many of his best men in the engagement that seized the ship, and his new orders are to hunt down the pirates who have been ravaging the trade routes of the Caribbean sea. But Brewer will face more than one challenge before he can confront the pirate known as El Diabolito.

annoying sound effects
Revisado: 06-28-24
In this tall tale, if I were Captain Brewer, I would first oil the F…ing hinges on my cabin door. The screeching serves no purpose. The latching sound of the door knob indicates the same thing. It is a door opening or closing. I am always entertained by nautical fiction, even though the story is a bit weak.

Historia
Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

Implausible scenarios, poor narrator
Revisado: 09-29-23
The author creates many situations that wouldn't really occur. The narrator employs silly over the top voices for some charters.

Historia
Built at the end of the last ice age, the mysterious stone temple complex of Göbekli Tepe in Turkey is one of the greatest challenges to 21st century archaeology. As much as 7,000 years older than the Great Pyramid and Stonehenge, its strange buildings and rings of T-shaped monoliths - built with stones weighing from 10 to 15 tons - show a level of sophistication and artistic achievement unmatched until the rise of the great civilizations of the ancient world, Sumer, Egypt, and Babylon.

Full of extraneous information
Revisado: 03-09-23
Only about 10 to 15% of this book relates to Göbekli Tepe. Lots of extraneous information about other places around the world that have nothing to do with Göbekli Tepe. Whenever measurements or distances are mentioned, the author feels it necessary to give us both the metric and imperial measurement. Pretty much a waste of 12 hours.

3 hours, Still waiting
Revisado: 03-10-22
This story is very confusing. Characters are chasing one an other in circles for the first 3 hours. Plot hasn't gone anywhere yet. Characters don't seem plausible. (e.g) One of the main characters goes around, sometimes secretly, making paintings and drawing pictures. 3 hours and I'm still waiting for an for idea where the Meltzer is going. I'm starting to lose interest. If I can finish this, I'll update the review.Thank God the "Length" listed as 13 hours and 43 mins, is incorrect. More like 5 hours.

Poorly read
Revisado: 01-14-22
Story at times suspends logic. Listener is left to guess who is speaking when the author doesn’t identify the speakers in a conversation between two people. Narrator’s pace leaves a lot to be desired. She reads so slowly sometimes that I found it best to listen at 1.2x speed.

Misleading - only a summary NOT unabridged
Revisado: 10-17-18
The text borrows some sentences from the official 12 steps and 12 traditions of AA. There is nothing misleading, but the full text of the “12 & 12” is not in the recording.
