Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Amazing Book w/Annoying Podcast added to the end!
Revisado: 05-08-22
Truly memorable tale, told beautifully by the author.
Why did they RUIN it by adding an insipid podcast to the end of this production? One minute you are deep into the conclusion of this story, and the next there are two LOUD valley girls spouting nothing but drivel.

Historia
Deborah Fallows has spent a lot of her life learning languages and traveling around the world. But nothing prepared her for the surprises of learning Mandarin - China's most common language - or the intensity of living in Shanghai and Beijing. Over time, she realized that her struggles and triumphs in studying learning the language of her adopted home provided small clues to deciphering behavior and habits of its people, and its culture's conundrums.

Interesting.
Revisado: 09-16-18
athis is a worthwhile listen if you are interested in China, the Chinese language, or visiting China.
only gripe: within 5 minutes of lstening are 2 pronounciation errors: the narrator pronounces 'grovel' like "grove-el". Ach...my ears. I'm surprised, actually disappointed, that these got by the publisher before release.
Despite this, I'll not decrease my rating, as the content is 4-Star worthy.

Historia
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

Worthwhile
Revisado: 08-05-18
This is an engaging true story that kept me interested till the end. I consider it 100% worth the credit purchase.
For me, the only weakness is the short ending, which leaves his journey's quest unfulfilled. Maybe his honesty is less than I had hoped for, that it would be more of a Disney finish. I can only hope that, with the success of this book, that his dreams were furthered.
