A tale of dogged reluctant persistence
Revisado: 03-18-21
I have listened to many of Adrian McKinty's books, all so far have been excellent.
The narration by Gerard Doyle is so good, characters are consistent, believable, real. Gerard Doyle is one of the best ever audiobook narrators in my opinion.
McKinty's books are often dark, but also entertaining in their words and delivery.
I highly recommend spending the time on these great listens.

Really liked the book.
Performance by Ray Porter excellent as usual.
For those that are concerned with audio dropouts mentioned in the previous reviews, they must have been fixed. I didn't experience anything like that.

Revisado: 12-10-19
Really liked this book, so entertaining. Mark Boyett as usual shines in his performance of so many lovable and hateful characters. The story is not heavy literature, but wasn't just an empty adventure either, it explored a lot of possibilities in development. Lots of laugh out loud moments too. Highly recommended.

Historia
An artificial object made of compressed stardust is barreling toward Earth. Is it an invasion ship? A doomsday weapon? Perhaps it’s the final response of Squanto, the Warlord of Rigel who James McGill has repeatedly humiliated. Or could it be from the Mogwa, sent to avenge McGill’s assassination of Earth’s Imperial Governor? No one knows the truth of its origins, but the object is huge and unstoppable. Whoever hurled this rock at us isn’t answering our calls. Every weapon bounces off, and the people of Earth begin to go mad as they realize their destruction is only hours away.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Well produced audible story
Revisado: 04-18-19
I enjoyed this story - it was short compared to the 12 hrs plus books I normally listen to, but it was more like a good film without the moving pictures. But no pictures didn't leave it lacking - the well produced voices and sounds were so complete that for me they illustrated an enjoyable visualisation of the whole story.
The story itself fits well enough within the Alien timeline, if you have seen the films - this slots into a neat space just after the first movie.
I'd recommend this as a good listen. Looking forward to other similar productions.

For years, two sisters have vied for the turf of their dead crime boss father. Across the streets of Guatemala City, bodies have piled up; the US Drug Enforcement Agency, operating far from its own borders, is powerless to stop the fighting. But now one sister has a weapon that could finally win the war - a cold, amoral hitman known, fittingly, as 'Victor'. Freed from previous employers the CIA and MI6, Victor is a killer for hire whose sense of self-preservation trumps all else. Yet as betrayal and counterbetrayal unspool in the vicious family feud, Victor finds himself at the centre of a storm even he could be powerless to stop.

A Good Victor book
Revisado: 01-24-19
I enjoyed this book, as I have all the others. I quite like the small incidental details that go with the character's day to day existence.
Peter Noble did a good job of narration, similar to the others but still well listenable. Another reviewer found it to be too rushed and fast - I found this not to be the case at all, it was a good pace - perhaps they had the playback at 1.25x?
Only one thing really grated with me with some details in the middle of the book, its not really a spoiler but it was annoying. There was a shooting, the gun described was a heavy revolver - but a following scene with the investigators described the 5 shell casings found on the floor, for the 5 shots for 5 kills. Revolvers do not eject their casings upon shooting like a semi automatic pistol. So this detail is lacking in the understanding of a basic pistol - with all the other sharp details in this story, for me it is this was one that is noted for its innacuracy. Victor with his care and attetion to detail is unlikely to eject the casings manually then fling them around just for effect, if he had there woud be an unspent bullet with the 5 casings as that's how you remove casings from a 6 shot revolver etc, etc.
Tom Wood, (or your editor) pop down to the shooting range and plink a few shots with some different handguns for a refresher.
Regardless of this annoyance, it was a good listen, worth the credit.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Deployed to a strange alien planet outside the boundaries of the Galactic Empire, he's caught up in warfare and political intrigue. Earth expands, the Cephalopod Kingdom launches ships to stop us, and a grand conspiracy emerges among the upper ranks of the Hegemony military.

Really enjoying this series, this and the previous books. I'd recommend them to anyone who enjoys military sci fi. Personally, though other new releases are waiting to be bought and downloaded, I have to get through this series first, they are very compelling, and a really fun listen.
Mark Boyett is an excellent narrator, he really owns the characters and is one of the best. He sounds like he likes what he does, compared to some other narrators who can be flat and dull and can totally kill a potentially good story.

A very well woven story
Revisado: 01-01-18
This was one of my favourite books of 2017. I really liked the way the story worked to complete the total picture, weaving memory, evidence and present day. I have never listened to John Chancer before, but he was excellent at performing different characters and genders, always with an ear to the urgency and pace of the story. I would reccomend this book.
