Great book- odd Narration
Revisado: 02-11-25
The story was great and the narrator was a good reader at a good pace but his character voices were cartoonish so it took time to get used to

My first Nora Roberts
Revisado: 10-04-24
Mom and I bout this book on CDs for a road trip. It was our first audio book and our first Nora Roberts book. We played a game where we took a sip of our diet cokes every time we heard the word “veranda” and had a fabulous drive. I’ve listened to several NR books since but this one holds the nostalgia

Historia
In Hot Blooded, she transports listeners into the heart of New Orleans, where a deluded murderer is on a holy quest of vengeance. Dr. Samantha Leeds hosts her own late-night radio talk-show on WSLJ. One day she receives a menacing phone call at her home, while miles away, a prostitute is strangled to death. Seemingly unrelated, nobody connects the two events until more murders occur under similar circumstances.

I’m into the story
Revisado: 09-23-24
The narrator is so slow that it doesn’t even sound fast playing on 1.2 speed. She’s also not great at nuance. She says everything too sultry.
The story was good- just some annoying repetition with thoughts and a couple logic holes. Definitely interested in no 2 though

Historia
Swept away from Louisiana bayou country as a child, Miranda Miller is a woman without a past. She has a husband and child of her own and a fulfilling job in a Manhattan museum, but she also has questions - about the tragedy that cut her off from family and caused her to be sent away and about those first five years of her life, which were erased from her memory entirely. Summoned to the bedside of Willy Pedreaux, the old caretaker of her grandparents' antebellum estate, Miranda goes back to Louisiana at last, hoping to learn the truths of her past and receive her rightful inheritance.

I liked it.
Revisado: 01-17-23
NARRATION: After the first chapter I went back to the reviews to see if anyone had complained about the narrator. I felt like the reading was slow and bland any that she was putting inflections in the wrong places. All I saw were compliments and the only complaints were about her pronunciation. I’m from southeast Louisiana and I didn’t hear the narrator “butcher” any pronunciations or accents as far as the general narrative and names. I don’t live around enough Acadians to know if she butchered the French or Cajun. I do think she did a good job of having the main character who grew up in NY pronounce things like a foreigner would. After the first couple chapters, the narrator’s style and cadence grew on me and I really enjoyed listening to the book.
STORY: At first I was frustrated with Miranda not catching on to things as quickly as I was but as the story began to open up, I liked the way she was written. The history and mystery are very interesting and I didn’t guess the plot twist until right before it was revealed.
This was my first book by this Author and I do want to listen to another.

Not the best one but still good

There were logic overlaps and plot holes that seemed like maybe they were the result of rewriting or mind-changes, but otherwise still a good Irish Murder book.

Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Starts out good turns into smut
Revisado: 12-14-22
I loved the way the history and backstory are introduced. It really seemed like it was going to turn out to be a really well thought out and written witch story.
It turned out to be full of cringy sex scenes which completely took me out of the story because I’d get distracted wondering why she wrote them like a horny teenager that can’t decide which words are dirty and which are sexy. Also she doesn’t seem to know what the word “rape” means.
The storyline itself became tiresome and grotesque. A waste of 45 hours. I just kept thinking, “but this is the famous Anne Rice, the famous Mayfair Witches story, surely it’s about to go back to being a good book?!” But no. It did not. IMO

Revisado: 10-31-22
This book would have been interesting if it wasn’t so drawn out and slow. The plot was great and I would have loved this book if it weren’t for the dragging & nagging. I’m still curious to try another Hester Fox book to see if she gets better at getting to the point
