Beautiful story of love, family, redemption, and change
Revisado: 07-23-24
This is the third one I’ve listened to in this series. I love the things she teaches about family and people and connecting . I love the real purpose of life. It’s not jobs prestige or money. It’s people and relationships, kindness, and forgiveness.

Well done historical fiction mixed with the modern day
Revisado: 06-14-22
The story was very interesting and she was able to put together everything that was understood and even suspenseful. You thought about the characters and wanted them to succeed throughout all their problems.

Historia
In this illuminating and deeply moving memoir, a former American military intelligence officer goes beyond traditional Cold War espionage tales to tell the true story of her family - of five women separated by the Iron Curtain for more than 40 years and their miraculous reunion after the fall of the Berlin Wall. A personal look at a tenuous era that divided a city and a nation and continues to haunt us, Forty Autumns is an intimate and beautifully written story of courage, resilience, and love.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Interesting but sad
Revisado: 02-29-20
The story was very interesting but sad that the father and mother would raise their family like that and handicap them for the real world. Tara had a terrible childhood and without her one brother who shared with her music and escaped she would never have made it out either. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they were not raised within in the principles or doctrines of that faith. Her Dad was very extreme and totally wacko.. Tara missed out on the comfort, love and teachings of Christ and all the help she could have gotten from the Church and it's teachings. I was sad she had to search so long and hard for peace and understanding of her life when she had the answers all along if she had been taught the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. It made me grateful for what I have and what I know and how I have lived.

I liked the story but didn’t appreciate so much swearing as one character said swearing made her cringe. I went to the end to see conclusion.
