I was a bit worried from the description that there would be bogged down flashbacks, which I usually find annoying.

Weir has an amazing sense of pace. The reflection pieces are all welcomed and carry the story forward.

If you liked The Martian then you will enjoy this listen, too. It’s a very different story and you will be glad to have spent time with these characters.

I’ve been binging romance books and this one was both fantastic and believable. I thought the addict was well researched and was glad I read up on this author. While most romance books have tunnel vision on the two main characters this book had breathing room with a community.

I had a rough week of silly complications and this book was such a delightful way to spend my free moments. The voice was soothing and fun and I couldn’t wait to hear how the story unfolded. Really helped with perspective and actually had some sound advice sweetly mixed in. Enjoy!

bad decisions make good stories

Total

I read somewhere that bad decisions make good stories. Nobody in this story makes a bad decision, except a roommate with a problem most of America has. Also, I couldn't help but think that the author made a deal with God that she barely holds up to. "Dear God, if I could only get published I promise I will mention You by Name once in every chapter". The Name dropping feels stilted and more obligatory than integral to the story. Finally, the narration is bad. The women sound like men. I've heard men read female parts with much more finesse.
