Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Not for me
Revisado: 02-28-24
Congrats to the author on her success with this book. I thought there were two really well written chapters (The NPC, and Pioneers) but I genuinely disliked the rest. To me, it mostly reads like a young adult novel abruptly upgraded with a thesaurus. The narrative is sprinkled with this maddening tendency for pretentious philosophizing. Gaming references, a mountain of them, felt manufactured and jarring more often than not.
I truly felt like ninety percent of the story was about two people trying to be friends in the most self serving ways possible. It was hard for me to connect with the two main characters on any level. Tangents describing Sam getting a dog or Sadie working out felt like empty content.
I wanted to like this work. It was recommended by a co-worker. I’m generally pretty sentimental when I finish a book but that didn’t happen for me on this one. It didn’t really mean anything to me. Maybe that’s the point given the borrowed Shakespearean title? I guess the general cynicism just wasn’t for me. I can’t think of many instances where I felt like having finished a book I had wasted my time; that’s how I felt with this one.

Maps have a mysterious hold over us. Whether ancient, crumbling parchments or generated by Google, maps tell us things we want to know, not only about our current location or where we are going but about the world in general. And yet, when it comes to geo-politics, much of what we are told is generated by analysts and other experts who have neglected to refer to a map of the place in question.

Supremely Interesting
Revisado: 01-22-23
I found the insights offered in this book supremely informative. I knew some of the facts about Russia and China due to their front and center nature but I learned a lot about Africa and South America that I don’t think I would have learned anywhere else. I would highly recommend this to anyone considering it!

Historia
The High Throne of Erkynland is tottering, its royal family divided and diminished. Queen Miriamele has been caught up in a brutal rebellion in the south and thought to have died in a fiery attack. Her grandson Morgan, heir to the throne, has been captured by one of Utuk'ku's soldiers in the ruins of an abandoned city.

Underrated
Revisado: 09-05-22
I love everything about this massively underrated series. Character development is on point and it’s hard to find a better narrative. Tad Williams writes in beautiful detail. I love how thoroughly enveloped I feel in the Osten Ard world while reading/listening. Andrew Wincott is the perfect narrator for this audiobook. His voice is incredible.
