After reading this, I question why this book was so acclaimed. The story was good but a bit mundane. I didn’t feel Phoebe’s motivation. The characters lacked depth or perhaps the story didn’t. It felt like it was mostly an illustration of two young women’s poor decisions. I could not connect to the characters or the story.

I could not connect with the characters even though they had plenty of appeal just weren’t written deep enough. Actually too many characters and not deep enough on any of them. Writing needs to be more co code. Lots of irrelevant info. Didn’t like the end but happy it did.

David Copperfield 2023!

Undoubtedly the modern version of Dicken’s David Copperfield. Well written and performed masterfully. Using today’s issues as a backdrop and weaving it into such a touching look into so many aspects of today’s homelessness, growing poverty, and child abandonment due to the drug epidemic. Amazing insight. Great ending. Loved the book!

Interesting story of a family torn by a tragic event. Took some time to get into it. Seemed a bit fragmented it as the story progressed I understood it was not so much about the disappearance but the effect it had on the family. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Love, love, loved this book!!

Highly recommend. The story started off with questions for me but then it came together very quickly. It was a bit hard to keep on track at first with all the descriptions but I understood why and how it actually helped so much as the story went on. Hanks was superb as the narrator. AND the story was addicting. So engaging. I didn’t want it to end but it did and I loved the ending. I’d give it more hearts if I could.

Drifting off…..

…is where I found myself with this book. I tried. I kept on reading it but just couldn’t engage with it. It seemed to pick up and then it drifted off, again and again. I was determined not to give up but it was hard since the story was so hard to follow. Fragmented, actually. And not cohesive enough to keep me focused. The history and customs were the only thing that got me through this book. I wanted this book to be so much more for me but it just never got to that point. Apologies to the writer, but I do not recommend this book.
