I was really enjoying this book until 3/4 of the way through, then it went from exciting and gripping to tired and slow.

Historia
Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

Another great story by Ken Follett.
Revisado: 08-19-18
Also, another great recording by John Lee. Over all, it's the characters that I love from Follett'S books. I enjoyed meeting and getting to K ow the people in this story. The historical perspective is interesting, and I loved seeing how different cultures dealt with the events of a common time setting.

Historia
In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Human Potenial
Revisado: 06-09-18
This book changed the way I think. Ayn Rand has created an interesting caricature of an economy moving from a free market toward a warped socialism. Although I don't share her economic views, I was able to look past that at the true great offering of this book. Overall it's a story about human potential; this tell a story of people who are driven and motivated to change the world and the challenges and successes they encounter along the way. I recommend parking personal perspective before reading this- it doesn't need to be an attack on your beliefs or values. If you can do that, you'll enjoy it all the more.

Historia
One day, 14-year-old Sophie Amundsen comes home from school to find two notes in her mailbox, with one question on each: "Who are you?" and "Where does the world come from?" From that irresistible beginning, Sophie becomes obsessed with questions that take her far beyond what she knows of her Norwegian village. Through those letters, she enrolls in a kind of correspondence course, covering Socrates to Sartre, with a mysterious philosopher, while receiving letters addressed to another girl.

Historia
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Chauvinism at its finest.
Revisado: 05-12-18
This book was difficult to listen to, as it centers on a chauvinistic male character. The story is told in the first person point of view. Virtually every female character the narrator meets is assed by by her looks and the likeliness to sleep with him. Literature can uplift thinking. This book drags it down.

Based directly on Frank Herbert's final outline, which lay hidden in two safe-deposit boxes for a decade, Sandworms of Dune will answer the urgent questions Dune fans have been debating for two decades: the origin of the Honored Matres, the tantalizing future of the planet Arrakis, the final revelation of the Kwisatz Haderach, and the resolution to the war between Man and Machine.

Don't do it.
Revisado: 06-11-17
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sandworms of Dune?
The scenes with Murbella were especially weak. The entire Bene Gesserit lot their sense of power, and all read like a bunch of directionless whimps.
Any additional comments?
This was an anticlimactic story to such an amazing series. Character development was weak, major plot points didn't seem to have any significance on the overall story line, and frankly, I was bored.

Don't expect this to feel like Dune
Revisado: 06-11-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. Initially, the pace of the story feels like it is going to move very quickly. But by the end it simply felt like a series of inconsequential events. The story could have began with the last chapter alone, I wouldn't have missed anything.
