The premise of the story was interesting but it was so annoying to have the main characters constantly back and forth on everything. Just pick an emotion and stick with it. And the begging she did to have him love her… yuck. Unfortunately, a big part of my dislike of this book was the narration. Very whiny, odd inflections that don’t coincide with the words or emotion. I really tried to finish this book but I couldn’t listen anymore and stopped with 2 hours left.

Just… boring.

I’ve read several books by Melody Anne and enjoyed them but this one fell flat. I stopped reading 1/2 way through because I was so bored and annoyed with the main characters. Chloe’s character came across a petulant. It was like whip lash - the whole back and forth about being Brandon was insulting to strong women. Over and over, she’d say no then after one moment with him, they’d be having sex and as soon as it was over she was back to “no” with this irrational reasoning for why a relationship would never work - and he just kept putting up with it. This wasn’t a romance… it was more like reading about bumper cars.

Not my thing..

I love sci-fi, alien romances so I was looking forward to this... however, it was seriously disturbing to listen to scenes that should have been erotic, turn into a nightmarish horror show. It was too bad because beyond the freaky sex, the story itself was pretty good. Unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to try the next book in the series, it’s just not my thing.

Loved it!

Really enjoyed this one. Joshua Macrae’s interpretation of the characters voices was spot on and appealing. Totally made the story come to life. And the hero’s voice? Wow... just <sigh>. Storyline moved at a good pace and kept me engaged and the scene of their “first date” had me literally laughing out loud!! A very enjoyable read.

Struggled to finish this one

I thought the first book in the series was good but this book was not my thing. I disliked the narrator’s interpretation of the hero’s voice, it was like a creepy, phone stalker’s whisper (however, I do like her voice overall!). The dialog was annoying, “Oh, hunter... blah blah”, the constant rude interactions between the characters was so unrealistic and while I could deal with a stoned sister being insulting, the other comments made regarding Hunter’s scars were appalling especially coming from “sophisticated” people. I also didn’t like how timid and weak the hero was portrayed as being. I still hoped the rest of the series was better but I’d barely begun the next book and was already annoyed. Won’t be quick to read more from this author I’m sorry to say.

This book held me captive right from the beginning, the strength of both main characters so compelling that the story just kept me holding my breath to read what happens next. Great book! The whole series just sucks you into this fantastical world!

A Cat with 27 lives...

This series has an interesting story line which is what is keeping me reading each book so far. However, major points of complete and utter unreality continue to make me roll my eyes in frustration: there is NO way a normal person could tolerate being shot at, molested, assaulted, nearly blown up, knifed, kidnapped, etc every 1-2 days without going totally insane with fear and paranoia. THEN proceed to go to work as if nothing happened. I get it's just a book where anything is possible but damn... You can actually predict when the next wave is going to strike. Another annoyance is the constant references to the main character being ashamed for nearly being raped and beat up. Is that a message we want sent to woman?? She's a strong character.... She'd know it's not her fault, go tell people and report the crimes.
And the whole love triangle? It's just dragging on and on... Better to finally make a threesome relationship work or pick one of the brothers and move on!
All of this being said... It's not a bad read... Just frustrating at times.

Captivating!

The story line was interesting and I'm a fan of big, strong, aggressive men being unbelievably tender and protective of their women. The narrator did a great job with the character voices and her cadence and speech patterns were really easy to listen to. I loved the quirky "appliances", pets and other household tools that author created. Very imaginative! The names of some of them could be less silly, though...(Think Me, Take Me...). Overall... I loved the book and the narrator and I'm looking forward to the next book!

While the story itself was good, it was difficult to really enjoy because of the narrator's performance. The narration was stilted, stiff and I really hate to even put this out here... very reminiscent of William Shatner's James Kurt. Halting and misplaced pauses just made this book hard to listen to.

A great read. Kept me engaged and entertained from beginning to end. I loved the humor of all the characters! The narrator was excellent and she created believable voices into a true performance not just a narration. Looking forward to the next book in this series!
