Great start, but bitter ending
Revisado: 12-10-21
This book started off great, but then it seemed like the author was reaching for a way to bring it to an end. After following the protagonist through all of the conflict, I was highly disappointed with the conclusion.

Great family listen
Revisado: 12-10-21
We absolutely loved this book! The characters were engaging, and while the manner in which they became millionaires is a little farfetched, the plot line was well written. This will definitely be a repeat listen.

Historia
Melody is not like most people. She cannot walk or talk, but she has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced. She is smarter than most of the adults who try to diagnose her and smarter than her classmates in her integrated classroom - the very same classmates who dismiss her as mentally challenged because she cannot tell them otherwise. But Melody refuses to be defined by cerebral palsy.

This book makes you think...
Revisado: 07-29-21
When we began this book, I thought, "What a clever title." But this book delves deeper, so much deeper than just thoughts. It makes the reader question their motives and own biases. There are so many topics and themes present in this text. I consider it a "must read" for educators.

When eighth-grader San Lee moves to a new town and a new school for the umpteenth time, he doesn't try to make new friends or be a loner or play cool. Instead he sits back and devises a plan to be totally different. When he accidentally answers too many questions in World History on Zen (only because he just had Ancient Religions two schools ago) all heads turn and San has his answer: he's a Zen Master.

Delightfully Entertaining
Revisado: 07-21-21
My kids and I loved this book! The writing is thorough and the topic is one that all ages can identify with. There are humorous moments throughout that made my teenage son repeatedly say, "I love this book." I'm definitely checking out this other books.

Bit of a letdown
Revisado: 06-29-21
This story began great, but ends a bit of a mess. Listening to the protagonist's adventure on the planet was exciting and engaging. But then, the plot twists into what seems like an entirely different book. This makes the book overall confusing and disappointing.

Absolutely Compelling
Revisado: 06-28-21
A lot of prequels feel forced, but Suzanne Collins has done an amazing job weaving the intricate background and upbringing of President Snow. The characters are developed in such a meaningful way that the conflict of "The Hunger Games" series makes even more sense. I understood Snow's plight. But there has to be more! I only hope future book(s) will reveal more of what happened between Snow and his beloved cousin. Also, I've listened to this book twice, and each time I wish the songs were actually sang. I would love to hear Lucy Gray's voice. It would be great if that could happen.

Historia
“Before I can begin my tale, you need to know about the king's panties.” So begins the epic adventure of 14-year-old Nigel, digger of latrines, shoveler of poop, and the single greatest threat to all the humans, elves, and halflings of Esteria. Nigel needs to escape from military school. Who can blame him? After all, the king just declared war on the gorks, and he's pretty sure his latrine-digging skills aren't going to be much good on the front lines.

great character development
Revisado: 06-11-21
This was a great read. McCormick is an entertaining writer that uses humor to add depth to an already great storyline. I like how this isn't a "happily ever after" story, but one that shows the ups and downs of life. This is definitely one story my family and I will listen to over again.

Historia
Eli Frieden lives in the most perfect town in the world: Serenity, New Mexico. In this idyllic place, every lawn is perfectly manicured, and everyone has a pool and a tree house. Honesty and integrity are valued above all else. The 30 kids who live there never lie--they know it's a short leap from that to the awful problems of other, less fortunate places. Then one day Eli bikes to the edge of the city limits, and something so crazy and unexpected happens, it changes everything.

Revisado: 07-15-20
Great family read and opportunity to discuss being open and honest. Korman did an amazing job developing the Osiris kids. I hope the next two books reveal more about the adults. I can't wait to read the second book and discover more of the origin of the kids and their caretakers.

Historia
Maya loves to cook with her grandmother - her Halmunee - to connect with the rich family history associated with each dish, a history Maya's mom would prefer stayed in the past. While cooking with Halmunee, something remarkable happens - the food creates such a strong memory that Maya and Halmunee are transported back in time through the memory itself. Halmunee explains that the women in her family have the gift of time travel through food and Maya can do it too, if she practices.

Slow start, but an awesome finish
Revisado: 05-22-20
This was slow at first, and my son complained while my daughter asked for more. But soon, we were all listening and enjoying this book. Maya's journey is amazing. Readers can connect with her struggle to not be considered a little kid, her desire to understand her mother, get longing to know more about her past, and her curiosity about her future. Overall, this is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Carley uses humor and street smarts to keep her emotional walls high and thick. But the day she becomes a foster child and moves in with the Murphys, she's blindsided. This loving, bustling family shows Carley the stable family life she never thought existed, and she feels like an alien in their cookie-cutter-perfect household.
