Historia
In 2009, Susannah Cahalan woke up in a strange hospital room strapped to a bed, under guard, and unable to move or speak. Her medical records - from a month-long hospital stay of which she had no memory - reported psychosis, violence, and dangerous instability. Yet, only weeks earlier she had been a healthy, ambitious twenty-four-year-old, six months into her first serious relationship and a sparkling career as a cub reporter

Excellent for anyone looking for more information
Revisado: 09-05-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Excellent description of her illness and how she felt, her treatment and also how her coworkers reacted to her illness. A prime example of why everyone needs to have their own patient advocate in order to get treated appropriately as health care workers are seeing you for the first time and they don't know how you were originally and may think this is normal behavior for you.
Which scene was your favorite?
The hospital description that she has to recreate from the chart notes, family notes and videos during her stay on the epilepsy unit.
Any additional comments?
Highly recommend for families that are dealing with a rare disease and trying to get a diagnosis and treatment.

Historia
On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. Over the course of minutes, they would kill 12 students and a teacher and wound 24 others before taking their own lives. For the last 16 years, Sue Klebold, Dylan's mother, has lived with the indescribable grief and shame of that day. How could her child, the promising young man she had loved and raised, be responsible for such horror? And how, as his mother, had she not known something was wrong?

Very informative
Revisado: 03-31-17
Sue brings out many important issues that affect life in all of us. I think she does a very good job in analyzing the many dynamics that were a part of this tragedy and I believe that everyone who reads this book will learn something to make each one of us a better individual. No one can truly know what any individual feels or thinks- professionals, parents or friends. I applaud her for sharing so everyone can learn and better understand those around us and our own feelings.

Historia
The greatest athletic performances spring from the mind, not the body. Elite athletes have known this for decades, and now science is learning why it's true. In his fascinating new book, How Bad Do You Want It?, coach Matt Fitzgerald examines more than a dozen pivotal races to discover the surprising ways elite athletes strengthen their mental toughness.

The mental aspect of endurance/extreme athletes
Revisado: 01-19-17
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
I enjoyed the comparison between different sports top athletes and what drives them, what that athlete feels is their weakness or what happened when they didn't perform as "expected" by sports commentators. Most people don't realize that just because your on top at any given moment how you may be struggling psychologically and how they get through that.
Any additional comments?
Overall a good read, but there were times my attention was lost with some of the explanations.

Historia
Three-time Ironman finisher Amy Snyder takes the wraps off the best kept secret in the sports world, the Race Across America (RAAM), a bicycle race like no other. Unlike its famous cousin the Tour de France, RAAM is much crazier, more gothic, and even savage: Once the gun goes off the clock doesn't stop, and the first rider to complete the prescribed 3,000-mile route is the victor. In Hell on Two Wheels, Snyder follows a group of athletes before, during, and after the 2009 RAAM.

Revisado: 01-19-17
If you could sum up Hell on Two Wheels in three words, what would they be?
intriguing
perseverance
insight
What did you like best about this story?
the description of the athletes state of mind while enduring the elements, course difficulties and confronting their physical limits
Have you listened to any of Sheila Stasack’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
it made me feel the struggle especially after hours in the saddle and with the hallucinations, you realize how they have surpasses their limit of stress on the body
Any additional comments?
I think she did a great job at covering the race so others can understand why drives these athletes to keep going or for repeat attempts to complete RAAM

Historia
With ribald humor, wit, and incredible insight, Alan seamlessly moves back and forth in time, integrating stories from his childhood in Scotland and his experiences today as the celebrated actor of film, television, and stage. At times suspenseful, at times deeply moving, but always incredibly brave and honest, Not My Father's Son is a powerful story of embracing the best aspects of the past and triumphantly pushing the darkness aside.

Terribly sad but happens frequently
Revisado: 04-03-15
Mental health affects many more than just the person as it did in this book. Many people just don't talk about it. This would be a good book to open up the discussion.
