Historia
Colonel Chris Hadfield has spent decades training as an astronaut and has logged nearly 4000 hours in space. During this time he has broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife, disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, and been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft. The secret to Col. Hadfield's success - and survival - is an unconventional philosophy he learned at NASA: prepare for the worst and enjoy every moment of it.

A Uniquely Down to Earth Book
Revisado: 01-17-23
I am a big fan of NASA so I've read a few books about the science and stories surrounding the organization. This was a very personal and unique story. He touched on the everyday quirks and challenges of being an astronaut. Which is fun and par for the course. The part I valued and enjoyed the most was the internal human challenges he so openly shared. If someone is looking for a book to understand the personal sacrifices and challenges it takes to be an astronaut. I would give them this book. 10/10

Historia
Smedley Butler was the most celebrated warfighter of his time. Best-selling books were written about him. Hollywood adored him. Wherever the flag went, “The Fighting Quaker” went - serving in nearly every major overseas conflict from the Spanish War of 1898 until the eve of World War II.

A good round perspective of Smedley Butler
Revisado: 05-15-22
Being a person who is generally anti-war and very skeptical of the state department. I learned a great deal more about what the United States did during the early 1900's. The overall narrative in most US history classes jumps from the Civil War, a slight bit on the Spanish War, then straight through to WW1. Butler was in pivotal areas and conflicts I was unaware of before listening to this audio book. This was educational and raw veiw of Butler and his legacy, the bad and the good.

I absolutely love this book. The narrator does a great job throughout and really gets me into the book. Being a big fan of various video games like Sims and Red Alert, it really makes me wish this book could become a video game. Love the science fiction and pop culture throughout the book!

Historia
A razor-sharp thinker offers a new understanding of our post-truth world and explains the American instinct to believe in make-believe, from the Pilgrims to P. T. Barnum to Disneyland to zealots of every stripe...to Donald Trump. In this sweeping, eloquent history of America, Kurt Andersen demonstrates that what's happening in our country today - this strange, post-factual, "fake news" moment we're all living through - is not something entirely new, but rather the ultimate expression of our national character and path.

Interesting Perspective of the United States
Revisado: 02-01-21
I think the author provides an interesting and important perspective on the United States. Going through the founding of the nation, all the way to near present day was a good way to organize the book. I know the author didn't mean that fantasy was all bad but I think it made sense with where he was going at the end. I like that Kurt Anderson provided a bit more nuance in his conclusion. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

Historia
What does a middle-class democracy look like when it comes apart? When, after 40 years of economic triumph, America’s winners persuade themselves that they owe nothing to the rest of the country? Rendezvous with Oblivion is a collection of interlocking essays examining how inequality has manifested itself in our cities, in our jobs, in the way we travel - and of course in our politics, where in 2016, millions of anxious ordinary people rallied to the presidential campaign of a billionaire who meant them no good.

A Critical Look at Why 2016 Happened
Revisado: 08-21-19
A hard hitting look at how Trump isn't the problem, he a symptom of the problem.
A convincing take on why the Democrats need to do a critical autopsy of their party after 2016.

Historia
While he's not quite a household name, most people would consider H. Jon Benjamin, the voice-actor star of Archer and Bob's Burgers (and a sentient can of mixed vegetables in 2015's Wet Hot American Summer) a comedy show business success. But he'd like to remind everyone that as great as success can be, failure is also an option. In a hilarious, self-deprecating memoir, Jon lays out some of his many failures in all areas of life, from Work ("wherein I'm unable to deliver a sizzling fajita") to Family ("wherein a trip to PF Chang's fractures a family").

This Book: Not a Failure
Revisado: 07-26-19
I was mostly motivated to first buy this because Jon Benjamin is also narrating the book. The audio book is hilarious and I highly recommend it over the written book. The book was Jon Benjamin through and through so it would help to be familiar with his work.
