Historia
Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot's rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society and made elegance and glamour her business. She's riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she's blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start - and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

Disliked the reader
Revisado: 04-21-24
Overall, this isn't a "bad" story. It's a bit overwritten, as in "how many times do we have to read about a man's lips?"
But what was really bad, was the reader! Her voice was essentially monotone and her character voices were grating. The children's voices especially were awful. *Note to voice actors: not all children speak in a whiny lisp, even if they are very young!!
I wanted to like this more, but the person doing the reading was just off-putting.

Narrator ruined the story.
Revisado: 01-24-23
I have read several of Joanna Fluke's "Hannah Swenson" books in book form. This is the first I have listened to.
The narrator, Suzanne Toren, totally ruined the story for me. Her characterizations of the voices were so off-putting, and I thought about not finishing it several times. These characters are from Minnesota, which has a distinct dialect. I didn't get that at all from the narrator. And making Lisa and Michelle sound like 11 year-olds was beyond irritating.
While I find the books to an enjoyable "light read," I don't think I will be listening to any others read by this narrator.

Historia
A broken engagement sends Graciela Harper crawling back to Heron Creek with her tail between her legs, but finds the sleepy little town too changed to set her life right. Not even her budding drinking problem can obscure her Gramps's failing health, or erase the mental picture of her first love happily married to her childhood best friend. To top it all off, she's having a heck of time convincing the town's dashing young mayor of her unfit-for-dating status.

I'm sure the story is fine, but....
Revisado: 04-09-21
I honestly couldn't get past chapter 3 because of the narrator. Ms. Haynes is the wrong narrator for a book set in the South. In my opinion, you need someone who can do the southern accent some justice to add that bit of "spice" to the story. Ms. Haynes just did not have that, so I could not get into the story at all. I think I will find a copy to read on my own.

Not the right narrator.
Revisado: 03-29-21
I had to stop after 2 chapters, the narrator was so horrible. she could not do the dialect that was needed for a book set in New Orleans. I may pick this up as a physical book to read for some light reading.

Historia
It's not the dead that seem strange to Quirke. It's the living. One night, after a few drinks at an office party, Quirke shuffles down into the morgue where he works and finds his brother-in-law, Malachy, altering a file he has no business even reading. Odd enough in itself to find Malachy there, but the next morning, when the haze has lifted, it looks an awful lot like his brother-in-law, the esteemed doctor, was in fact tampering with a corpse—and concealing the cause of death.

Narrating ruined the book.
Revisado: 04-24-09
I looked forward to listening to this book. I had heard wonderful things about the story. Unfortunately, Timothy Dalton's narrating ruined the experience.
He read it entirely too fast. There were no pauses to indicate sentances, no inflections to indicate a new speaker and to be honest I would get a migraine listening. I finally had to cut my losses and delete it from my iPod.
I will check it out of my local library as I do want to give the author his due and not pass judgement on him because of the poor job done by the narrator.
