Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

An sci-fi story full of cliches and obvious outcomes
Revisado: 09-28-23
I was very disappointed in this book. It had a great premise but quickly dispensed with anything novel in favor of catering to its target audience: senior men. If you take a step back and just ask that question, nothing about this book will surprise you or be found very interesting. It was well written, but it was pretty disappointing.

Amazing insights
Revisado: 06-30-23
There’s a lot of bad information about the pre-Columbian Americas out there and this book does so much to push back on many bad narratives. I highly recommend and hope to find more insight works like it.

Historia
How do I forgive? Nobel laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu has witnessed some of the worst crimes people can inflict on others. So wherever he goes, he inevitably gets asked this question. This audiobook is his answer. Writing with his daughter, Mpho, an Anglican priest, they lay out the simple but profound truths about the significance of forgiveness, how it works, why everyone needs to know how to grant it and receive it, and why granting forgiveness is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves when we have been wronged.

Historia
Today's "machine-learning" systems, trained by data, are so effective that we've invited them to see and hear for us - and to make decisions on our behalf. But alarm bells are ringing. Systems cull résumés until, years later, we discover that they have inherent gender biases. Algorithms decide bail and parole - and appear to assess black and white defendants differently. We can no longer assume that our mortgage application, or even our medical tests, will be seen by human eyes. And autonomous vehicles on our streets can injure or kill.

Historia
I don’t agree with many of the words you’ve used, but I will give you this: They do have a way of looking at you sideways that can be unsettling. So begins a letter from Nathaniel, a PhD candidate who’s recently moved from the east coast to Orinda, California. Nathaniel knows that his brother, Brice, who still lives near their mother in Michigan, couldn’t possibly understand the nuances of his and Cate’s new life: their eclectic community, their work in academia, and the liberal, alternative thinking that shapes the way they’ve handled their fertility issues.

I seriously don't understand what this is about. I was hoping for something to help give me insight into being a dad, but instead it was just about a guy who doesn't like his wife's rabbits? Maybe its about mental health? Unsure.

Drawing on her 30 years' experience practicing pediatric and adolescent medicine, teen health expert Dr. Meg Meeker explains why an active father figure is maybe the single most important factor in a young woman's development. In this invaluable guide, Meeker shows how a father can be both counsel and protector for his daughter as she grows into a spiritually and mentally strong young woman.

High expectations, low results
Revisado: 08-29-21
This book starts strong but then the author gets on her high horse and gets a bit preachy. It seems like Dr.. Meeky is just using a bunch of anecdotal evidence from the late 1990s and early 2000s to confirm her previously held positions. I'd like to see updated and greater amounts of data, preferably pier reviewed. I also wish it told more about how to build a good relationship with a daughter beyond the little that the author gives. great concept though!
