Historia
God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

Such a unique story
Revisado: 03-16-25
Definitely feels like I’ve read some of what we are actually going through… story was so unique. Very sad a lot of grief yet I still wanted to know what was going to happen. I’m definitely reading the second book to know what they became.

I actually like the characters. Even the ones I don’t like… lol
Revisado: 02-19-25
This is a good start to the series. It ends on a cute little cliffhanger. There wasn’t a character that majorly pissed me off. I did start to guess some of the story but that’s only because I read a lot of these types of fantasy books lol. I do think the male reader was a little hard to listen to only because of the way he took breaths while reading. I didn’t hear that with the female readers. Overall 5 stars! Can’t wait to finish the series!

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

This reader did Yiddish, Italian, Romanian, and a Hispanic accent and languages very well!.
Revisado: 02-14-25
The reader stole the show for me!
Ok sooo just to start out… the first 30% was slow. It was hard to get through for me. The only thing that kept me reading was the fact that my brain doesn’t like not knowing how things end, and the fact that I felt like there was no signs of the plot yet which was a waste because it seemed like it would be good. But right when I was complaining, I pushed through just a lil bit more to about 40% and the reason I chose this book to read for this month specifically started to show itself. And thank goodness because I am so happy I kept reading!!! The sense of community! The melting pot of different types of people coming through for each other. The sadness and dread I started to feel for the characters. This is a great book. Definitely happy I chose Black history month to read it. The ending had me in tears!

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Revisado: 02-07-25
I don’t normally cry in books… but TWICE this one had me drop tears! In public at that!!! I absolutely loved the reader. The accent. Each voice she gave for each character! Perfect! And author… omg the girls all have my heart! This was one of the best most coziest love stories I’ve read! And not just romance but also chosen family too! I know this will be on my reread list when I am in need of all of the feels!!

Revisado: 02-07-25
The reader was great but could have used a bit more different voices for different people to help differentiate who speak into a little better, otherwise the story was amazing. The fight scenes could have used a bit more detail but for a two book series I am pleased and fulfilled!

Historia
In this exhilarating tale by New York Times bestselling and award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor, a disabled Nigerian American woman pens a wildly successful Sci-Fi novel, but as her fame rises, she loses control of the narrative—a surprisingly cutting, yet heartfelt drama about art and love, identity and connection, and, ultimately, what makes us human. This is a story unlike anything you’ve seen before.

I needed the ending.
Revisado: 02-04-25
The story got tied in together so well at the end. I will say it is a typical story of a Nigerian family and their high standards. But a few good twists I didn’t see coming. The story within the story was great to keep up with! It reminded me of if IRobot continued its story years later… I loved it!

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Amazing follow up!!
Revisado: 01-22-25
I love the book. I love the story! The action, the romance, the SPICE!
However I was trying my best to put up with the reader… a lot of people say you can hear her swallow and make noises. I had to listen to this book at 1.7x and it took away most of those issues for me… but even with the speed I can still hear the dubbed over part.. and there are times where it sounds like she pulled away from the mic and comes back a sentence later.
The times that frustrated the crap out of me the most… When there is action, she basically screams instead of just speaking with intensity. To the point whereI have to turn the volume down. It really feels like she’s yelling. I put up with it but I really really don’t like it.

This is the story of an apparently young, amnesiac girl whose alarmingly unhuman needs and abilities lead her to a startling conclusion: She is in fact a genetically modified, 53-year-old vampire. Forced to discover what she can about her stolen former life, she must at the same time learn who wanted - and still wants - to destroy her and those she cares for and how she can save herself.

I loved the reader.
This story gave a newer look on vampire lore but in a way that went back centuries without actually going back. It’s about vampires but included race, chosen family, and how connected everyone could be.
