One of the most enjoyable of Sandford's "Prey" series! Has drama, tragedy, and comedy. It's pretty clear "whodunit" early on, but the fun part is how the case plays out.

Just a plea for the producers to find another narrator for future books. Some of Roy Dotrice's narration is fine, but so many of his voices for characters, especially women, are absolutely appalling, with most sounding like variations on toothless 100-year-olds.

More good adventure with Nate and Joe

The characters of Joe and Nate are great fun to spend time with, there's just no other way to put it. And David Chandler's narration, with his subtleties of intonation and enunciation, is perfect. Box's love of Wyoming's wildlands enriches each story. My one gripe is that certain characters tend to be portrayed as "types", behaving and speaking predictably in accordance with their type. One of Box's favorite "types" is the annoyingly single-minded, crusading, self-righteous environmentalist who prioritized bugs and bunnies above all else. In this book, the biologists are studying grizzlies, and are only concerned about the bears, and not about people who might be endangered. And, of course, the biologists make stupid predictable mistakes, because biologists are pretty much always portrayed as bumblers in this series. (Really, C.J., it's getting old!)

Other than that really relatively small gripe (sorry, I had to get it out), I love these books. As another reviewer said, I think I'll probably be listening to some of these more than once, just for the pleasure of the characters' company.

What did you love best about A Long Way Down?

Of course, one rather dreads a story about people planning suicide, wondering how emotionally draining it might be. Hornby manages to give his characters such a light touch, and there's so much humor, that the novel is great fun. Probably not a very realistic portrayal of the emotional state of most people seriously contemplating suicide, but a fun story.

What made the experience of listening to Flotsametrics and the Floating World the most enjoyable?

This book presents Ebbesmeyer's research on the ocean with great humor, making it enjoyable to get this piece of science education. I plan to listen to the book again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Flotsametrics and the Floating World?

The use of accidently dumped floating Nike tennis shoes and rubber tub toys to reveal ocean current dynamics.

What about Eric Michael Summerer’s performance did you like?

Summerer's performance was "invisible", i.e., we weren't conscious of the narration as we listened during a two-day drive. No distracting or annoying quirks. So his presentation was great for this type of book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Fascinating and entertaining, while addressing profoundly worrisome issues such as the great garbage patches in the ocean.

What made the experience of listening to Doctored Evidence the most enjoyable?

It's always a pleasure spending time with Detective Brunetti, his family and colleagues. I enjoy the leisurely pace of the Brunetti mysteries, which are centered on human relationships and the Venetian setting, rather than being taut blood-soaked thrillers.

What other book might you compare Doctored Evidence to and why?

In terms of pacing and evocation of time and place, the Brunetti series might be comparable to the Thomas Pitt series by Anne Perry. However, the Brunetti series has a lovely contemporary Mediterranean tone, as opposed to the starchy Victorian concerns of the Pitt series.

What about David Colacci’s performance did you like?

Colacci brings consistency to the Brunetti characters from book to book, as well as warmth and humor. He is able to portray the female characters' voices in a way that works; often a challenge for male narrators.
