A gentle book describing two people from India, raising their two children in the United States. Their son has an issue with his name. He is the main character in the book. It is the saga of his life from birth, until the age of around 32. Blending in with two cultures is sometimes difficult project. Very much enjoyed the book. The narrator is fabulous.

This book was the biggest John Grisham disappointment for me. The story is about a South Sudanese basketball player who comes to America. Almost the entire book is a boring description of myriad basketball games. The story line is simply implausible. I read Grisham's book about the American football player in Italy and it was OK, this one is boring.

My favorite genre is historical fiction. And this book is a delightful read. We may know all about Wallis, Simpson and the abdication, but his other mistress Thelma Furness is simply a footnote. The narrator overall was fine, but I thought all of her American female accents were the same. I will be looking at her other books.

I have always enjoyed the work of Nora, Ephron and her sister Delia. Both of them have the same breezy witty style. The book is both written and narrated by Delia. After suffering the death of her sister Nora in 2012, she undergoes another tragedy. No more spoilers but this short book details the circumstances in her life from about 2014 to 2017. Like both of the Ephron sisters I am from southern California but I love New York City. So I enjoyed the New York City references. A wonderful, fabulous book.🤩

I tend to bypass biographies for memoirs. As a typical biography, the book was full of names and details. Somewhat difficult to keep track of everything. I do enjoy art. I have been to Venice, but visited the academia and not Peggy’s museum. Interesting book, but maybe not so many names.

Overall, the book was interesting, and I learned many new facts. One of the things I have dealt with in my public high school teaching career is facing accommodations. I Muslim students. This never happened before 2005. We had to drop our swimming unit because several female students did not want to wear any kind of bathing attire. It got to the point where it was not fair to let them out of the unit, but make everybody else take it. Another problem was Ramadan. Kids were bringing me notes to get out of physical activity during Ramadan. I lived in France for six months after I retired in 2014. Their population is approximately 12% Muslim. They do have strict laws about secularization. But I saw a dying culture before me. This is starting to happen in some places in the United States. I hello.

I found the first and last part of the book the most interesting read. The middle part was a schedule of Hussein meetings, traveling to meet with foreign leaders, and his frustration with some of the Arab countries and Israel. I was surprised about Russia’s involvement in the Middle East. Overall a good book, but a little dry and detailed for me in some parts.

This book enter weaves three different storylines. First, is the authors childhood an earlier life. Second, is recovering from a devastating fall in 2008. Third, is her quest in India in 2011 to see a tiger in the wild. Writing is interesting and this is an easy read. Short chapters are also a plus.

Historical fiction is always an interesting way to learn instead of reading a dry chronological biography. I enjoy art and already have seen many of the works mentioned in this text. However the backstory is quite fascinating. I don’t know if the hard cover edition has photos of the actual works of art. I went to the Internet to refresh my memory. Overall, the book was an easy read, The narrator was excellent, and the story added to my knowledge of renaissance art

I saw the author on the Bill Mahr show. Yes she does have crazy hair! The theme of the book is compulsory hijab in Iran. It is timely because of the current protest in Iran regarding government corruption and the murder of a young woman over hijab. Sometimes the author engages in difficult behavior but it fuels her passion. Sometimes I could not keep all of the Persian names straight but it was not a major problem. Very good book. I enjoyed it.
