The writing is very simplistic with a clunky plot that jumps. The book could have been a decent road trip listen/ daily commute book but the person they chose to voice the female lead is atrocious. legit, I'm not convinced that they are not hoodwinking us. She might be a robot.

Josh consistently writes complex and flawed characters that capture how humans are messy and imperfect creatures that are somehow deeply lovable in their earnestness. Casper in "Lemon Drop Kid" is no exception. You feel his churning emotions. Casper is struggling with loss, hate, and confusion.

Casper's partner Detective Raleigh Jackson helped put him in jail for a murder he did not commit. Once exonerated Casper is literally and metaphorically struggling with the profound silence and physical toll of truly being alone. In jail Casper because use to living in an environment constantly filled with sound. Even if you were alone, you were not alone. And while incarcerated Casper had the illusion of a support system waiting for him on the outside.

Once free from being held in jail Casper's body viscerally rejects the deafening silence of his new life. You can feel the confusion he grapples with when he sees that he both loves and hates Raleigh. You can feel the weight he carries knowing he has no more family. He has a huge estate but no one to fill it. This hate and loneliness become a new prison for Casper.

In "Lemon Drop Kid" Josh explores how two things can be true at once, and sometimes you have to decide to be happy over being "right" because what hurts less? Forgiveness or holding onto fractures? And that's not perfect or ideal but it is what it is. And Casper doesn't paint everything over with a brush to smooth out the edges. It's not perfect and that's okay.

It's from wading through the sludge and darkness that the characters learn to appreciate the glimmering moments of "stillness." It's perfect in it's imperfection. Casper and Raleigh learn to love people based on their entirety.

I'm not sure how to give this starts. The writing is not bad so I don't want to take away stars. But this book contains love extended conversations between siblings of the opposite sex talking about sex graphically. It''s really odd and I'm not sure why it's not referenced more in reviews. Its really revolting. But if you have an incest kink this is a good book for you.

A novel that basically sums up the stereotype that lesbians are dull and absolutely no fun to be around.

At first I genuinely thought that the female voice actor might be virtual voice. To the point where I was starting to get annoyed that someone's real name was listed when it was virtual voice. The narration picks up and it's real people. It gets good but I was skeptical at first. I would stay stick with it past the first 30 minutes.

I have had the release date for this audiobook on my calendar and have been counting down. I have a visual impairment and can't read book/ tablets. Fun Fact, the screen to speech software on phones/ the kindle, often glitches and at the start of each new page big chunks of text is skipped over. you miss half the book.

I have been waiting since "Not All Himbos Wear Capes" came out in audio to find out what happens next. It's been forever.

I got up at 12:00 AM to buy the audiobook and I called out of work sick today. It's a fantastic recording. Linda in HR, if you see this, I regret nothing. Worth it.

Basically, this is kind of like "Shameless" the TV series but with shifters. Lee (MC) is a loveable dirt bag, who walks the line in such a way that he stays sexually-damaged/charming. The book could have really taken a turn, but it ended up being sweet. You learn Lee actually does and can love. And Lee, manages to grow but not loose himself and all of his dirt bag qualities. He's not transformed totally into an insufferable individual to be "worthy" of love.

Unopular opinion: I'm not a fan of Nick J. Russo. I think his voices are kind of "derpy." Like, if Nick while voice acting, was a cat, he would be an orange cat. The "derpy" was not laid in too thick and it actually kind of worked to smooth Lee's dirtbag edges.

If the sex was removed this would be good YA. I'm not opposed, exactly, to the idea of a book about 18 year old High School students if it is written at a level not aimed at 14 year olds. this is very shallow with no level of insight. it is what you expect. Cheerleaders = mean. Rich boy = evil. Bad boy = lost.

just watch Gossip Girl. the writing is better and you don't need to waste a credit.
