Simon Schama made me feel as though I was hearing well-known stories for the first time. I knew very well how the Battle of Hastings turned out, but it didn't stop me from sitting in the car, long after my journey had finished to hear the thrilling end of the battle.

Schama writes beautifully. This book is mainly the story of the kings and queens of Britain and you should know that before reading it. He covers a lot of ground but Schama manages to provide enough detail for each period to give you a good grounding in the history. He writes with a light touch and the minutes fly by. I can honestly say I was not bored for one second and often I listened for much longer that I meant to just so I could find out what happened next. Which is saying something, because I knew exactly what happened next. That's what a good story-teller Simon Schama is.

Stephen Thorne's narration is just brilliant. Schama's prose and Thorne's voice add up to the most riveting re-telling of British History one could ask for. Highly recommended.

I could listen to Thich Nhat Hanh for ever. He has the most mellifluous and gentle voice and he is so thoughtful in his delivery.

This audiobook is a good introduction to mindfulness meditation and buddhism.

This book is disappointing because it a jumble of lectures/seminars/talks, some of which are repeated almost verbatim!

The content is interesting and informative-once. But hearing the same anecdote three times becomes tedious.

If you could sum up The Science of Enlightenment in three words, what would they be?

Shinzen Young's explanation of meditation is fascinating. It helped me see the world in a different way. Mr Young has a pleasant and clear voice and the book contains theory and practice. First I listened to the whole thing in the car and when I was at the gym, then I used the guided meditations.

Mr Young's formal training is in Buddhism, however he has studied meditation as it is practiced by many religions and cultures, as well as looking at meditation from a scientific angle.

Highly recommended for those who are interested in practicing meditation. I know I will listen to the whole book again and again.
